Tendeck is a promising young netminder that has played a lot in the WHL already at the age of 18, and is a good bet to continue to be the go-to guy for the Giants for the next few seasons. If you’re the type that subscribes to the notion that goalies need to face a lot of shots to improve, Tendeck’s status as the undisputed starter on a transitioning team should be good news. He’s already shown improvements in the WHL and if he can add some consistency to his game he could be an effective asset in any NHL organization.

Goalies are always *shrug* but yeah I like a lefty who sees a lot of shots. Nobody will ever beat tandem of "Pizza Goalie / Grease In The Crease" Smith and G'affe Dubnyk, but the name "Tendeck" has tremendous nickname potential.

If any faux-scouts / Vancouver Giants fans wander in here, how's his puck handling? Super important that goalies get out of their crease quickly and can play a decent pass.

Tendeck is a really solid addition to the pipeline and will probably make the jump into the pros (ECHL) after this coming season. He was fantastic for a Vancouver Giants team with very little on it. Here's part of the write-up done on him as he finished 13th in my personal goalie rankings:

Playstyle wise Tendeck also shares similarities to Ferguson with the most notable one being that they are all about being quick. Whether it’s moving around the crease or performing any other movement Tendeck is quick about it. He has the physical skills necessary to make this playstyle work and he knows it. Tendeck loves playing on his edges and through the season has gotten more confident in using them. At the start of the season Tendeck was quick on his edges in an uncontrolled fashion. By the end of the season Tendeck has gotten better at controlling his edges as he’s getting set more often and not sliding out of position as often. He’s still not perfect in his edge control as he’s still coming in off-angle a noticeable amount of times. Tendeck also struggles when moving around the crease on via slides in keeping his form together which leaves him quite vulnerable to any sort of pre-shot puck movement.

You can see the confidence Tendeck has in his style through his stance where he likes to get low but keeps his upper body compact. Tendeck also loves to push the boundaries of just how aggressive he can be which does get him into trouble from time to time. If Tendeck wishes to keep being this aggressive he’ll need to work on adding an explosive part to his game. Personally I believe Tendeck’s best physical skill is his overall footwork. It’s more controlled than his edge work in where he ends up on the ice. Tendeck also does a better job in keeping his form together when moving around on his feet versus sliding around the crease. His footwork isn’t slow either and is actually a good speed. The last aspect of his physical skills you’d like to see improvement in is adding more calmness into his game. Tendeck is definitely guilty of being over active in net.

What makes Tendeck’s physical skills effective is how well he does at tracking the puck around the ice. It’s noticeable how quick Tendeck is at picking up the direction changes of the puck even through screens. His puck tracking is part of the reason why he’s over active in net as he believes he needs to react to every single change in direction to a large degree. What Tendeck needs to work on in regards to his shot tracking is getting the timing down better as he’s able to get part of his body in front of the puck but is guilty of reacting too quickly causing a rebound he doesn’t want getting out. Tendeck is also guilty of playing a more reaction game rather than trying to read the play. He has shown the ability to read the game but is definitely more of a reactionary goalie. Lastly Tendeck loves to play the puck and will leave his net on almost any situation to play it. He isn’t a liability though and shows good decision making as he keeps his head up at all times.
