If this suit is found in her favor, what might happen if another Crosby or Mathews sues the NHL to play before age 18?

It may be moot as there is a CBA between the NHL league and union. (AFAIK, MLS is a "single" entity, not group of individual franchises?)

Bingo. The CBA allows for age limits. Something is being formed for the NWSL, but it’s not official yet.

Thing is, she’s been training in Portland and there are many whispers that she’s good enough to get in. Since Portland has kind of a high bar for the Thorns, that’s saying something. Of course, how many times has that been said about teenagers?

Kicking myself for not posting what was either a think-piece or column speculation I read a week or two ago.

Because the NWSL filed another injunction. They're still trying to mothball Moultrie, despite the fact she's already appeared in 3 games. (Which... I think the Thorns like her more for physical presence than soccer IQ. Which is something that can be learned...)

The piece was a bit of speculation as to why. It was mentioned that not every NWSL club has accommodations for someone that young. The Thorns get to share in the Timbers youth program, so there are personnel that can be employed to separate the underaged from the adults, so to speak. Since not every club is affiliated with an MLS team, and many of those clubs aren't too far from toeing the financial line, it is believed that the league is therefore trying to protect the poor clubs.

But that's going to be an issue in the near future anyway. European clubs are doing more of a job of poaching some American kids. NWSL will want to make a little money off that at some point.
