My order is 15 > 03 > 04=79. Could be convinced to 03 being 1st though since 15 is still pretty unproven compared to the others.

03 really lacks a headliner like McJesus, Ovi or Bourque/Messier, but was the deeper of these drafts by a good amount. Still gets my vote.

I voted for 2015 in the last poll, but I can’t pull the trigger on it here until we see some more development. I think 2015 is better than 2004, but it’s unclear beyond that. 2004 isn’t that deep and doesn’t have an impressive blue line.

1979 has a great headliner both up front and at D. Not so much in net. Love that 1979 center group!

Sitting at a desk.
Struggled with 03 and 15. Based only on speculation, I think 15 can surpass is. 79 would wrap up the top 3. 04 has nice headliners but the depth comparatively is atrocious.

I said it during the draft year, but 2015 will be the draft to remember. Not even just for McDavid, but those first few rounds were all basically first round picks. It was a phenomenal draft to behold.

Just extra info.

79 had 16 80 pt+ scorers (Messier, Gartner, Bourque, Goulet, Anderson, Stastny, Propp, Broten, Steen, Ogrodnick, Vaive, Christian, Foligno, Naslund, Krushelnyski, Crowder)

Take out Ovechkin and Malkin and 2004 looks weak. 2003 is still the standard when it comes to depth but 2015 looks super strong as well and with better high end. 2003 for now, 2015 possibly in the future.

Reallllllyyy can't compare 80s scoring with post-lockout scoring.

'03, until '15 has more time to compare. For goodness sake, ANA got Perry and Getzlaf in the same draft. NSH got Weber and Suter, and to a lesser extent Klein. That was one half of their defense for several years.

2003 probably, it's so deep
Also, not sure why you included Chiodo and Brodeur as "notable goalies", with a combined 15 games played.

2003 has great depth and when many of these players were in their prime the draft was looking pretty solid but now that we can see several of these players trailed of significantly at or around 30.

1979 has the the players that 2003 doesn’t. Hall of Famers with significant longevity.

Not sure how many of the 2003 players really belong in the HHoF. Who are they? At some point they will get in even if they don’t deserve it. Bergeron probably should be in the HHoF but Carbs is not so I wouldn’t bet my house on it. Corey Perry will probably get in on the Hart alone and if he gets in, Getzlaf will too. Fleury might get in on team success but on the other hand it’s tough to get in as a goaltender. Barrasso should get in before him and maybe even Cujo/Vernon/Osgood. Shea Weber might get in based on a decade of consistency and maybe being the national team’s #1 for a while. I think all of these players are really stretching it but it wouldn’t surprise me if they get in.

In other words;

Perry, Getzlaf, Weber feels ”meh”.
Bergeron, Fleury requires others to get in too, imo.

While I agree that it's difficult to compare different eras, I think it's interesting that the 2015 and 2004 drafts each currently have three 80 point scorers (McDavid, Rantanen, Barzal and Ovechkin, Malkin, Wheeler).
