With training camp approaching, I'm rolling out some of the upcoming season's threads, so here's the 2015-16 Injury Report thread. Among those ending 2014-15 on the injured list were: Jerry D’Amigo (facial surgery), Zemgus Girgensons (foot), Josh Gorges (knee surgery), Chad Johnson (ankle), Evander Kane (shoulder surgery), Robin Lehner (concussion), Cody McCormick (blood clots), Jamie McGinn (back surgery), and Mike Weber (LBI surgery). Further, goalie prospect Linus Ullmark (hips) is recovering from offseason surgery.

Are there any reports on Nathan Lieuwen's concussion recovery?
No, not yet, but Rochester beat writers will probably touch on that soon. Lieuwen's listed as G1 for Group C at training camp and there are tweets out there suggesting that he was skating in August:

Are there any reports on Nathan Lieuwen's concussion recovery?
Lieuwen tries to put health woes behind him:
Nathan Lieuwen, in his polite and soft-spoken way, brushed off the question about last season and his brain.

“Let’s just not talk about that,†he said.

It makes sense. The Sabres goaltending prospect had a year to forget. He struggled with vision problems that a neurologist linked to the concussion issues he’s faced since he was 16. His season ended in January, and his hockey future was once again in doubt.

Lieuwen, though, is back in Buffalo’s training camp and eager to continue his career.

He will relieve starting goaltender Chad Johnson at some point Monday night during the Sabres’ preseason opener in Minnesota.

Is it safe to say that McCormick is heading to LTIR or is it too early?

Hard to know - sounded like the player feels fine but the medical staff aren't seeing it safe for him to play. If the blood clots that forced McCormick out in February are now keeping him out after 7 months, it sure seems that this could be a LTIR scenario soon.

McCormick is not going on LTIR, period. The Sabres have cap space, and there is no reason to use LTIR in such a circumstance (and it wouldn't actually do anything anyway, since LTIR just allows a team to exceed the cap).

Good point. I guess my point (to which Sabretip got to), is McCormick done? Blood clots 6 months after initial diagnosis sounds very scary/dangerous.

In injury news, defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen (lower body) has been skating on his own and could start practicing in about five days, Bylsma said. Defenseman Zach Bogosian (lower body) won’t skate for the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, winger Patrick Kaleta, a camp tryout, is day-to-day with a lower-body he suffered in a scrimmage. Bylsma said he hopes Kaleta can skate this weekend and wants him to play a game.

Goalie Linus Ullmark, who’s recovering from hip surgery, has joined full workouts.
