LHD Michael Callahan, Youngstown Phantoms (Ranked No. 123):
Mobile two-way defenseman with a very hard shot who looks to transition the puck with his wheels or hard, crisp breakouts. Callahan is a very good straight-line skater who loves to join the rush and play aggressive inside the opposing zone, but the timeliness of his pinches and step-ups reveal a thinking-man’s defender who can be counted on to do a lot more than just hammer pucks. Nonetheless, his shot is quite impressive, and he gets a lot of mustard on his wrister or slapper off his back foot.

He has more offensive game then his stats show - big shot from the point, and can make that tape-to-tape pass to make for an effective break-out.

Will be at Providence College next year - a top NCAA program. They've been to 5 straight NCAA tournaments, and have been cranking out NHL ready talent lately.

Thanks for the update Dux. Another skilled puck-mover to throw on the pile of blue liners. Given the sheer number of defensemen we've been drafting (13 in 3 Chayka drafts), I don't mind knowing Callahan will have three years instead of the usual two to get a contract done.

Callahan named to the preliminary roster for Team USA for this year's World Juniors Tournament. He's looked good (obviously to be named the this team) so far in his freshman year. There will be one more roster cut before the tourney starts after Christmas.

Not much on Callahan here. He was a captain for Providence as a sophomore and is returning to school for his junior season in 2020-21.

Anything in particular that stands out?
