The real problem this year, other than goalie and the defense to start the season has been the first line:

2017-18: 1.96 pp/60, CF 50.66 CFrel +1.26, GF/GA 54/37, xGF 52.08, xGFrel +2.23

Giroux:

This "personal" stuff is a joke, anyone who watches Sanheim would notice he has great stretches, and brain dead stretches, like the first period against San Jose. When he's good, he gets more PT, when he sucks, he gets to watch for a period or two. Not exactly a shocker.

Provorov, Lindblom, Patrick are younger than Sanheim, why aren't they benched?

I'm not seeing this Sanheim player who makes all these mistakes.

Who is he?

Saw Haag directly responsible for 1st goal
Folin with worst turnover of game that almost lead to a goal.

Frankly, on some level I agree with much of what Deadhead states.

But I don't understand where he's coming from on these statements about Sanheim and probably a couple other younger players.

He totally ignores the horrid play of other dmen.

For the record - I'm fine with Haag as the future #6.

My hope would be
Provorov
Sanheim
Myers
Morin
Ghost
Haag
i don't know if that's realistic or not.

If Hak doesn’t like the player, he makes it personal. You listed absolute trash compared to our best young D prospect.

So, again, you're helping prove that Hakstol's sorry system was dragged to the playoffs by a handful of players last year.

The dumping and chasing is sorta a problem, they have a terrible time recovering it well. The neutral zone passing is by far their biggest problem offensively though. Hakstol prefers a stretch pass style of playing.
They have an even more difficult time on controlled entries. And it’s a major problem when they turn it over & it goes on an odd man break the other way.

They simply aren’t a great skating or passing team, & really struggle to skate/pass it through the NZ. It’s turnover city. I hate the stretch passes, & I hate all the point shots, but they really don’t have many explosive forwards who can get to the net. Just Jak & TK.

It's not realistic because one of those defensemen will be playing for Seattle. ;)

Snaheim should be much better by the end of the season, but his impact is grossly exaggerated, he gets the most sheltered minutes. He shows flashes of elite play, but also stretches of play where he gets pressured off the puck.
Sanheim has offensive potential, Hagg has production, he's is 10th among starting defensemen in the NHL in pp/60 (5x5).
That no more makes Hagg a top defensemen than Sanheim's flashes of good play - both need to produce at a high level for an entire season.

Morin is an unknown, he was before he was injured, he certainly is now. People who say he SHOULD have started are engaging in wishful thinking.
Hogberg, on the 1st pair of the best team in the SHL, might be a better bet to start two years from now.

Myers is a work in progress, like Sanheim there's a lot of upside, but potential is a dirty word. Let's see him dominate the AHL, then come up and play defense the way Lindblom has played at forward.

The other D-men haven't been horrid since AMac got benched, Folin is never going to win style points, neither will Gudas. They generally get the job done, which is basically what you could say about half the defensemen on playoff teams in the NHL.

Vanilla team is what the problem is. Not a rugged team and not even close to a Tampa or Pitt team. Moves gotta be made after tomorrow. Yotes are good boy.

Giroux is playing at a ppg level. Lets not deceive ourselves or others as to why that first line has struggled

We are blessed to have Couturier as our #1C. The funk will end eventually.

Couts played the same way last year as he did the previous two years, the difference was he stayed healthy for 82 games and had much better linemates - but his Corsi and xGF were actually better the previous two years (though matched up against weaker lines).
This is why I presume his problems this year are related to the MCL injury, you don't forget how to play hockey at 27.

Bring up a young center. Give them a chance. That's what every other competent NHL team does.

Unfortunately our coach needs Couturier because he can't handle a roster or matchups without him, so I'm sure they're reluctant
That’s the problem with the line they are being used as a match up line in a defensive system. Last year hak use filp as the shut down early on. And the coots line as the the offensive line. This year is all coots. That’s a problem. That makes that lines mins super difficult. I am hoping he starts leaning on Patrick a bit more to get the top line better match ups.

I’ve really liked the effort through this entire trip. Entertaining hockey, good results and whilst we’ll always have the line-up and usage issues if it carries on at this level I’ll be happy. Looks like I’m alone, but that wasn’t terrible.

I fell asleep after the 1st. Woke up and watched the 2nd period this morning. Should I finish the game?
