Top point getter in the WHL is a second year eligible he has to be consider one of the top dozen snipers in the class, and he seems to have added a step or so to his stride this season. He may not project as even a top three line pro, but certainly has skills and attributes to be though of as a solid pro who competes for minutes on the bottom end of a roster and help increase a teams depth in competition to fill a roster.
Bill Placzek

Steenbergen became the centrepiece of Swift Currents offence, improving from 20 to 51 goals this season over last, enough to share the WHL lead. He performed well in the playoffs as Swift Currents second-leading scorer with 14 points in 14 games. The speedy pivot edges well and is a threat both on the rush and in front of the net. He comes off the wall well with a lightning quick release. Sam Cosentino, Sportsnet.

Steenbergens a really solid WHLer. The challenges for him going forward are to a certain extent his size, and to a larger extent his ability to build upon his monstrous 2016-17 season. Can he create offense at even strength? Can he maintain his shooting percentage? Can he round out his game with a bit more attention to his defensive responsibilities? Theres a good foundation laid for Steenbergen, but due to his age he arguably has a slightly shorter runway for development than the first year eligible players in the 2017 Draft.

Dont mind this pick at all. If we took him at 128 last year and he showed these numbers this year we'd all be thrilled with his development.

50 goals is nothing to scoff at

It was surprising that he wasn't drafted last year. He's the only guy the Coyotes took this year lower than I had him rated, so in that sense I think he was their best value pick. Likely 3rd line upside, but he's a very smart player with a wide range of offensive tools. Only a year away from AHL eligibility, too. Smart pick.

This kid is absolutely destroying the WHL this year. He had a 5 point night with 4 goals tonight and has now amassed 20 goals, 10 assists and 30 points in only 10 games. He is carrying Swift Current along with Heponiemi (26 pts in 10GP).

Awesome to hear thanks for the update. His name alone is all world, I want him to be an NHLer at least for that.

Does anyone recollect how he looked in camp against NHL talent?
