40. Zdeno f***ing Chara

He's old. He's slow. He's washed up.

And he's still the best f***ing shutdown defenseman in the league. John Tavares? So invisible I thought he was still with the Islanders. Panarin? Started dreaming of Miami every time Big Z stepped on the ice. Sebastian Aho? Ahope you didn't plan on winning a game in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Big Z is our Captain and he's gonna raise that f***ing Cup one more time.

42. Winter Classic at Notre Dame

Touchdown Jesus. Luck of the Irish.

This was our Lake Placid.

It was stylish start to the new year for the Boston Bruins.
Pastrnak had a goal and an assist, Rask made 36 saves and the Bruins beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 on Tuesday in the Winter Classic at Notre Dame.
"You want to win those games when you're on the big stage like that," Bergeron said. "I know it's a regular-season game, but still you know the meaning's different when you're playing in front of 76,000 people and on national TV. So we know what's at stake with those games and we want to make the most of it."

They certainly dressed for the occasion. Bergeron and company wore tailored suits, vests and hats to the game in a nod to their surroundings and "Peaky Blinders," a TV show about a gang in England right after World War I. Rask also had Notre Dame's iconic "Play Like A Champion Today" sign painted on the back of his helmet.

43. Special Teams

Certainly not the only reason they beat the Canes, but a big reason all but Game Three had somewhat lopsided scores.

Credit to both the players and coaches, and it affects the game beyond the scoreboard. Wanna try to send messages and get under the B's skin? Ask Dougie Hamilton and Justin Williams how that worked out.

#44 Team Camaraderie

From Twitter battles and banter to the Peaky Bruins there is an obvious and genuine friendship amongst this group that is often hard to find in professional sport these days. I think this has been huge in the Bruins success this season as you'll only do so much for a work colleague but you'll often go to hell and back for a friend.

47. Leadership
“There’s not one word for it,” said Bruins newcomer Charlie Coyle. “Being in Minnesota for seven years, and you hear stories about (Boston’s) locker room and leadership, and then you come and experience it, you’re involved in it and become part of it — it’s everything you’ve heard and more. The leadership trickles down and everyone follows suit. It’s not just one guy; it’s a lot of guys, and everyone picks up after that. They set the standard, and that’s why it’s a tightknit group.”

We basically kind of grew up together,” Bergeron said of the veteran core. “We’ve been around so long, and it’s been a fun ride to be part of with these guys, the core group and leaders. We’ve been through a lot, and you realize how hard it is to get to this point, so you’ve got to be thankful for that.

“Over the last few years, we’ve built something special with the young guys. They are a big part of this group and this team. They want to get better. They are big-time players and they relish any challenge, so it’s been a fun ride.”

48. BRUINS INSPIRE ARTISTS.

This is my pencil drawing entitled "Big Bad Bruins", inspired by the Boston Bruins fans. Limited Edition Prints are available for purchase here: www.jeremybrescianiart.com/products/big-bad-bruins-limited-edition-print. Get yours today before they're sold out!!
This piece captures the feeling of being a Bruins fan on game day as fans walk toward both the Boston Garden (left) and the TD Garden (right). I merged the two arenas to capture the complete history of the team. Ghosted in the sky above the arenas are seven of the many great players that have captured the hearts of Bruins' fans since their inaugural season in 1924. From left to right: Eddie Shore, Gerry Cheevers, Phil Esposito, Terry O'Reilly, Bobby Orr (scoring & soaring in classic fashion through the middle), Ray Bourque, Cam Neely and Zdeno Chara. Fan jersey numbers pay tribute to these players as well as many more. Don Cherry welcomes fans to Boston Garden on the left while Blades the Bruin welcomes fans to TD Garden on the right. Superfan Sammy Berns is shown walking to the arena in the center carrying a Boston Strong flag.

53. The ability to Improvise, Adapt & Overcome
Life Lessons We Can Learn From the Marines

From Dupes:
The Bruins clinched their berth in the Stanley Cup Final Thursday night with Torey Krug, their downsized power-play quarterback, leading all 36 skaters both in total ice time (27:00) and time at even strength (25:14).

That, folks, is improvising.

Minus injured captain Zdeno Chara, who sat out for only a second time in Boston’s last 132 playoff games dating to 2008, the Bruins dismissed the Hurricanes with a six-man backline corps that began the postseason with but 105 games of postseason experience.

Chara, 42, entered Round 1 this spring vs. Toronto with 159 games on his playoff CV, the equivalent of nearly two NHL regular seasons.

“He’s our leader, we want to have him with us every step of the way,” said Charlie McAvoy. “But just because he wasn’t out there, he was with us in spirit.

“He is always with us, regardless. We saw his face there before the game. He just kind of has that presence. He dials everybody in and I think we all sharpen up a bit when we see him. We’re playing for him.”
...
Improv, of course, is essential at this time of year. No team plays every other night, at this scheduling pace and this compete level, without holes developing. Thus far, Butch Cassidy’s Hole in the Wall Gang has proven the ability to negate, or outlast, the three different styles of teams they’ve faced.
...
It is never easy. The schedule alone is engineered in a way to make it the most difficult eight weeks in sports, a tableau of carved faces, tendons torn, and bones broken or ground into pumice. It is the sweet hell of the Stanley Cup playoffs, and the Bruins Thursday night in Raleigh officially walked through those gates again for a third time in nine years. If you’re going through hell, Winston Churchill once said, keep on going.

54. The System: Defend - Support - Timely Response

We've seen it all playoffs time and time again. Quick strikes when they are needed (Game 2 and 3 against the Canes), Smothering third period defense when the other team is coming back (Game 4 and 6 against the Leafs), Huge timely goals when all else seems lost (Game 1 and 5 against the Blue Jackets). It's not just scoring goals, Its when you score them. It's not just making saves, its when you make them.
