Preview

After taking four of five from New York during the regular season, top-seeded Pittsburgh (7-2-0) had a tougher time sending the Islanders (3-3-3) home from their first playoff appearance in six seasons.

Sidney Crosby had three goals and 15 assists against New York last season, including playoffs. He'll try to continue that success after none of his season-high seven shots went in during a 1-0 home loss to Colorado on Monday.

With the Penguins taking on New York and Toronto on back-to-back nights, Fleury seems likely to get one of those games off. He was benched prior to Game 5 of the playoff series with the Islanders after yielding 14 goals in Games 2-4.

The Islanders also have games on back-to-back nights this weekend, and backup Kevin Poulin is likely to make his second start of the season in at least one of them. Evgeni Nabokov gave up nine goals in the team's two straight losses to Carolina and Vancouver.

"I'm not going to discuss the goaltending," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. "Poulin is going to get his chance shortly. If he plays well, he's going to play more."

New York blew an early 2-0 lead and another one-goal advantage en route to a 5-4 overtime loss to the Canucks on Tuesday. Frans Nielsen had a goal and two assists and Matt Moulson scored twice as the Islanders tallied at least three goals for the fourth straight contest.

With two power-play goals, New York is 6 for 17 during a 1-1-2 stretch.

New York went 0 for 16 with the man advantage while being outscored 16-5 in the last four regular-season meetings with Pittsburgh.

Tavares has an eight-game point streak, but he's been held to a goal and an assist in his last 12 regular-season matchups with Pittsburgh.

well done MM on the game day thread!!!

Our defense is not looking to good right now...I wouldn't totally be against a move for a solid veteran defensive dman with size

MattMartin really good GDT. Tavares and Hamonic in particular look stressed, like they are really dealing with crappy bosses <g>.

Hopefully, the isles come with a strong effort.

Let's go Isles.

No Vis, no Grabs, no Strait, Martinek's first game back against the Pens, not good.

Might want to fix the "Hammonic" typo if you can, otherwise great GDT! Hope we don't get our ***** kicked too badly tomorrow night.

Count me in the minority who don't think this will be a blowout, but thinks this is exactly the team I want to play- even if we lose. This team could use a jolt. The Penguins will have them focus. There's no margin for error. I say, start Poulin - gotta do it at some point and Nabby's shakey right now, no need to worsen that sending him out against the team that lit him up last Spring. Plus, with the back to back games, now's as logical a time as ever and I think he'll respond well to a day off and a start against Philly (just a hunch). ... And recall CdH (because we cannot bring Reinhart back). Good experience. I know Martinek's gonna see action, but I'm actually not sure he's a worse defender than Carkner (albeit, he has none of his size) and it could help us offensively.

The rest is on the core forwards. They need to play a tight game and cash in.

Great GDT! A win here could be exactly what this team needs. But, I don't see that happening. Martinek first game. Grabner and Visnovsky not in. Nabokov has been bad. Poulin needs to start. But, I just see the Penguins at home, having a field day with our defense and shaky goaltending.

Great GDT, my one problem is that Cappy isn't a Maneater, he's a Man, Eater.

Hoping for the best for the game. It's not a loss until Nabby lets in 6 goals!

Clever GDT MattMartin !

I think our Isles will come out inspired in this one. I expect a close game.

Tanner Glass is playing on our third line. That pretty much puts the advantage in the Islanders' court. Glass is basically our Reasoner/Pandolfo (ie. the guy fans just don't understand how he can even have an NHL roster spot).

Plus there's always the Fleury factor. He's been stellar so far, but he's one booted puck into his own net away from imploding on any given night. His backup doesn't exactly inspire any confidence, either. He's basically an AHL version of Fleury (decent regular season guy, implodes in the playoffs).

I am not sure what you were shooting for on this, but I am pretty sure you achieved the opposite results. :D

7-1 Pens
Bouchard gets a goal and celebrates like he won the cup.
