Mitchell is not a top 6 player! Yes they tried it for half a game, and then they realized it wouldn't work. He's not a goal scorer, and his hands are awful. Nino is a better option on that line. Maybe we should try Veileuix next to Koivu and Parise while we're at it

Obviously he isn't a top 6 player. A great third liner. I never disputed that....

I hate to dogpile on Koivu, but I can't help but agree with these sentiments at times. Since they put Nino on the top line, I've notice that it's Koivu who looks out of place or even invisible during some periods. Sometimes it looks like he's just trying to keep up with Parise and Nino.

Like I said, I don't want to pile on Koivu, because nobody played exceptionally well last night, but I'd be lying if I said that I was satisfied with Mikko's play as of late.

The problem is, he's always looked a bit out of place on the top line. I think the Wild just gave up their search for a true center and gave it to Mikko

I know a half game with the top line isn't a lot of time, but I'm guessing it didn't take to long to figure out its not going to work out.

I do like when coaches mix lines up though to find a positive solution. They're going to have get creative soon with Heater.

I wouldn't think they'd have too much of a problem experimenting with taking Heatley out of the lineup. They were trying to get him going. Didn't work. Problem is Coyle went down and his replacement looks like he belongs there but is new to it. Pure speculation but by last game I wouldn't have been surprised if they started testing granny on the 2nd wing.

Are you people seriously suggesting placing Mitchell on the top line" Sorry but :help:

I don't see much of a reason to harp about Koivu's performance so far. I would say he has been offensively average compared to what he could be, not great but not bad either. But the fact is that he has had worse starts offensively and now has 5 assists in 7 games, and nobody on the team has more assists than him. Him and Parise both have 5 points. I am also pretty sure his focus is not 100% on hockey at this point in time, but things will settle down. With that said, I would not be surprised to see a short-term change in Parise's game (for the worse) come January either. These are human beings after all.

Koivu hasn't been exactly stellar at the start of the season but I don't understand this kind of statement at all. I've seen absolutely nothing from El Niño in the top line. It seems like he lacks the creativity to be effective there. Even the goal he scored was a bit of a fluke if you ask me.

Because Mikko is a veteran and Nino is a rookie?

And Koivu has not met my expectations of his own creativity and effectiveness. When you're comparing a veteran Captain like Mikko and a rookie like Nino, they shouldn't be this close.

Maybe he's just in a rut right now, but I really hope we see more out of Mikko. Again, I am not saying that he's a bum and should have the C ripped off his sweater, but I'm just hoping he finds another gear and starts standing out a little more. Just my two cents.

Maybe I misunderstood. I thought you meant Nino being the one looking more like a top line player and Mikko's "trying to keep up with him". That's the thing I disagreed with. Nino hasn't looked like a top line player to me and of course much of that is because he's inexperienced and isn't used to that kind of a role in the NHL. The fact that there's a reason behind Nino's underwhelming performance and Koivu's bit of a headscratcher with his lack of success doesn't make Nino a better top line player.

I quite on the other side of the fence. I think Nino has looked very good with Koivu and Parise. That line just needs to get some space which they haven't done a great job of. Nino has a hell of a shot, but the line isn't getting any room to give it to him.

All you peeps are crazy. Parise-Koivu-Nino is the best first line we've ever had. Give them a full ten games together and you are going to start seeing some fireworks. You can already see it, they already very close to being an amazing line to watch.

Parise - Koivu - ____ is usually a pretty good line regardless.

Coyle looked great. Pominville looked great. Nino looks great.

Parise Koivu Coyle
Zucker Granlund Pominville
Cooke Brodziak Nino
Heatley Mitchell Fontain

Heatley doesn't have the speed to play on the 4th line.

Heatley doesn't have the effort to play in the top 6.

Heatley's defensive skills are not good enough to warrant playing on the 3rd line.

The only play Heatley's skills, speed, and defense warrant him to be is the press box.

I want Veilleux back on that 4th line. Heatley would make it a boat anchor line, just like he's doing to the 2nd now.

I'd rather Heatley play 5-10mins/night as a PP specialist from the 4th line than play 16mins a night like he's doing on the 2nd.

And I'd rather play him 0 a night in the pressbox than have him drag down any line period. You plug almost anyone into that 2nd line in his place and you improve it.

It's not realistic to expect him to be in the pressbox on a regular basis. 4th line is at least a realistic option.

With him playing the way he is, why is that not a realistic expectation? I don't care that he's a veteran, I don't care that he has the potential to turn it around, I don't care that he's being paid 5 million with a 7.5 million cap hit. If he wants to play he needs to earn his spot like everyone else. He is doing nothing but drag the team down in his current position and there is no other place in the lineup where he could be used that he would not drag down as well.

Because on the 4th line, he can still play on the PP which is the last place he is truly effective.

Heatley is too slow for offense, sure, but he's still "ok" in his own zone. The 4th line is just expected to "not give up goals"... nothing more. He can't really hurt it very much. With his salary, they will not sit him in the pressbox for more than just as game or two.

Ya Yeo should grow a pair and do what's best for the team. Send a message that you are not entitled to a spot because of your salary but because you earned it. We have the forward depth to do this now.

I honestly don't care about Heatley's former accomplishments anymore, imo he doesn't have the speed to be effective in a top 6 role as is. Unless that somehow miraculously changes I don't see why we should keep giving him the benefit of the doubt based on what he used to be.

I'm sure he would still ******* something up in the pressbox. Probably break a popcorn machine or something. He would find away to drag that down too ;)

That's fine. A busted popcorn machine won't lose us a game or cost us goals on the ice.

Might piss off Russo or something tho.
