I agree that Josefson played much better than Gio, and deserves a spot on this roster, but Gionta has major chemistry with Carter and Bernier. While, it might not be fair to Josefson, Pete Deboer is looking to win with a team of player who have hardly played together. Having at least one familiar line is more important to Pete than playing Josefson in a fourth line role.

The funny thing is Josefson indisputably outplayed Lokti and Gio. So that's why I'm more bothered by that.

I can understand wanting to go with reliability. So fine Pete, I'll defer to you this game.

The Fayne situations is really interesting. I think there has to be something we're missing (maybe he's a bad practice player?).

I don't like some of the players being sat either... but I suspect that DeBoer's thought is with back-to-back games and then an extended road trip, rotating some players in and out of the lineup is a smart thing to do.

It's a 82 game season and he can't start everyone at the same time. Gionta and Harrold being in our lineup for game #1 of #82 doesn't bother me one bit.

If the players who are healthy scratches today continue to ride the pine by game #15, then I'll start to rant about how #28 is sucking up the joint (again) and should be replaced by Fayne.

It's Game 1 guys, no worries. Long season ahead, and I think that Harrold and Gio's play will eventually thrust Fayne and Josefson back into the lineup. At least, I hope.
