Just bought my first guitar to go along with my Basses

Can’t wait til it gets here!

Gretsch makes sharp looking guitars. I'm thinking there are harmonics to be found between the bridge and the tailpiece.

A lot of reggae bass is great and it tends to be more out front. The old Motown acts. There's some real shit going on there--Sly and the family stone. The bass player who use to jam with me pre-Covid Entwistle was probably his favorite. He also liked Les Claypool a lot. Peter Hook from Joy Division--Mike Starr from Alice in Chains, Dave Allen-Gang of Four, Steven Hanley of the Fall. I like the Rancid, Fugazi, Rage and Sublime bass players too.

Yeah, brothers funk band (all Motown tracks - all of the classics - all artists) bassist was incredible.

However, to me, you nailed it in your opening - Robbie Shakespeare - THE bassist of Dub. Leroy Sibbles was a criminally underrated bass player as well, because his voice was so sweet.

With Robbie Shakespeare though, no one has any idea of how many tracks he actually played on. The most impressive bassist resume of anyone ever.

Such a great song (albeit very dark) and such a great performance.

i love that Drake's uncle invented slap.

and thundercat touched on Jaco who is just ridiculous. i just started scratching the surface of his music and man, the guy is quickly becoming an idle of mine.

Check out his work with Weather Report.

I live any live recording he made with Hiram Bullock who was a great session player and in Letterman's Band forever.

That Stereolab record is

level good
It's a great album to blast because of the "dual mono":
Margerine Eclipse was mixed with full stereo separation – or as Stereolab termed it, in "dual mono".[17] For every song, the band made two recordings – each with a different arrangement – then created a final mix by synchronising both recordings together, with one on the left channel and the other on the right channel.

The Avalanches who do sampling/hip hop/electronic put out their third album this past Friday. A lot of guest spots. I'm very interested to hear.

To anyone who is curious they became hipster legends in the early 2000s and didn't put out a follow-up until 2016. A lot of legal and personal issues. But they are very fun if you're into sampling and funky dance music.

I might have mentioned them before but KEN Mode from Winnipeg. Love those guys. Like metal/hardcore/noise rock. They perfectly take all the noise and feedback stuff that Nirvana was doing on Bleach and In Utero and combine it with the ferocity of Converge.

I also started listening to Uncle Tupelo which was the band that split into Wilco and Son Volt. Definitely more alternative rock (120 Minutes Era MTV for all you who are my age) than country.
