Indeed. Hopefully the the that gives up an arm and leg for him can re-sign him and have some sort of draft pick condition kick in for us.

RANGERS GOING TO GIFT THEMSELVES A PICK SOMEHOW? The New York Rangers should sign Kreider LONG term and put the C on his chest. How many other teams in the nhl have a top3 fastest skater in the league who is 6'2" 225lbs and can dominate games at will? Pay the man!

Its not the money. It's the space. I think at the end of this month Skjei is a goner because the room to keep Kreider or ADA has to come from somewhere.

If he can dominate games at will, then he doesn't "will" it very often.

Contract demands. Look what Hayes just got. Look what JVR got. Ok, maybe it's a Philly thing. Lee just got 7/7, don't you think Kreider is looking at something similar - maybe more? If Kreider is looking at a contract roughly 7-7.5/7, that puts us in a tough spot. It hurts us now with the cap and it could hurt a lot more when Kreider is closing in on mid 30's. If Kreider was 26, we probably don't think twice about it, but he's turning 29.

What else is he looking for? Maybe a NMC clause? No clue. But's not as easy as just signing him.

They should both be worth a 1st. These GM’s are afraid to trade a pick that may average to a 20-40% chance at being an nhl regular in 1-4 years time. Rediculous

The chance that a rental has a significant impact on a team’s playoff success is less than that, so those GMs are making the mathematically sound move.

How often does that happen? Asking for a friend.

I don't understand how CK thinks he is worth 7/7 when Lee has scored 40 goals, or 7/5 when JVR scored 30 several times. This is the first year he will score 30. 6.5/5 or 6/6, if he is looking for more he can play in Detroit or New Jersey - who else has a huge amount of capspace this summer?

He saw Panarin sign for nearly 12mil/yr. Granted, Panarin is putting up more points, but Kreids has been the most consistent Ranger for nearly a decade. He mentors every young guy coming into the team and has bled blue for this franchise. hes done EVERYTHING asked of him. Pay him. you're going to have to jettison Brendan Smith and Todd Haley and visit the possibility of buying out Marc Staal. Re-sign DeAngelo and Kreider. Consider packaging Skjei, Fast, Andersson and Buchnevich for an upgrade on lines 1&2 wing. We have K'andre Miller and Nils Lundkvist coming soon to replace Staal and Skjei which will also help with cap space. Things might get tight, but winning teams find a way to keep their best players and kreider is clearly one of the top 5 players on this team.

Id say the last 26 games in a row or so.

Not that a contract year would have anything to do with it but that's not bad for being on the team since 2011. Guessing its hard for some to admit that Kreider is also good at vanishing at will.
There's going to be some disappointed Ranger fans around here once Gorton pulls the trigger.

Hoping he resigns w NYR for ~ 6 yrs $40M - ie $6.66M\yr
that's a lot of cash

and the point that gets overlooked too often is that the power, value, impact of having money is that you don't have to make decisions based on money

if he want to stay w NYR,
if he want to play where he wants to play,
take a little less, get some other concessions
(such as no-move for a few years, trade control after that, ...)

i know these guys are competitive and know the ##s
but they also know NHL is a Hard Cap league, everyone cannot get every $

if CK want to stay NYR, stay w Zib and Bread and coach Q,
take little less and make it work

the difference between $40 and $49 million will not affect his lifestyle, or that of his future family
but in hard Cap NHL, it may impact whether NYR can keep him

Wrong.
And how do you know that?

So because Kreider is having a pretty solid season and been one of the most consistent players in the league over last 30 games, NYR fans arent allowed to enjoy his play because he is not as consistent as McDavid or Crosby?

We know what Kreider is like and know exactly how he plays. We watch him every night and notice a big difference when Kreider does disappear but he is a consistent 50+ point player who can be so effective even when he doesnt get points on the board.

...and FYI, there will be a hell of a lot of disappointed fans when he is traded as he is a massive part of the team and loved by most of the fanbase.

send him home to beantown

they have been clamouring for a big fish and it would make perfect sense to put him beside krejci and add further depth beyond the bergeron line

Your argument would only make sense if the NHL did not let teams trade prospects.

Prospects can be used as currency. Pittsburgh just used Addison as part of the currency to acquire a top 6 NHL forward with term.

Teams can't just overpay and burn picks/prospects at the deadline. If they do, they won't be in a good position to address needs later on via trade.

I would NEVER put a C on a player as inconsistent as him who only shows up half the games.

Kreider is the model of consistency. just because he isnt always on the score sheet doesnt mean he isnt doing exactly as the coaches ask and being a role model in the locker room to all of the younger kids coming up IE: Kakko, Fox, Buch when he first got here, Lindgren, etc....

you want consistency. look at CK's stats. 50 point player give or take depending on injury status.

The knock on Kreider has always been his consistency. We're not talking season to season production, it's more of a 'was Chris Kreider in the lineup tonight?' sort of deal. Hell he was a ghost for basically all of October this season. Lucky for us (and him) he's turned it around since and has never been more engaged.
