Tanev, Brodie, Vatanen, Buff, etc. (Personally I would rather have Hamonic, Gudas, Dillon, Demelo, Braun, Shattenkirk, Borowiecki and Edmundson, but most of those would depend on team needs - I wouldn't for instance take Barrie for league min).

The reality is that Montour is fairly one-dimensional, so his value on the market would depend on what teams are looking for what he brings. Would he get more than his 3.525M QO? I have my doubts.

-tanev is good when healthy thats the key
-brodie and vatanen are meh at best you could put them on par with montour
-buff hasnt played in a long time, if healthy then yes definitely put buff over him easily
-edmundson, boro, shattenkirk and maybe gudas are bottom pairing guys, potentially demelo as well but he just fits as a defensive partner in the top 4 as well
-hamonic, dillon and braun are definitely up there in the same range as montour but then you gotta factor in age

maybe it was a bit of a stretch of locking montour into the top 5 but he would definitely be above a lot of dmen. Hell I would trade a 2nd for him to sign him to avoid open market competition

Didn’t the Sabres trade a 1st for Montour a bit ago? I mean I know he’s been stuck in Buffalo and they’re horrible, but has he been that bad individually?
2019 1st and Guhle for Montour

Stecher and Virtanen are possibles from Vancouver. Not that I agree with that, but it is Jim Benning. Montour and AA are obvious candidates, regardless of acquisition cost. If the Blues are serious about signing Pietrangelo, I could see them walking from Barbashev and Sanford.

Caggiula, Mikheyev, Kahun...some other 'names' where the team may not be interested in the arbitration rights.

A lot of teams are cutting salary. But I think 70-75 is more realistic for most teams. I could see Ottawa being in the 60's potentially. Getting down to 50 would take some doing as that's below the cap floor so you'd need to take on some contracts that have bonuses already paid.
At one point this year I think the team iced was in the mid to high 30’s lol. Callahan, Gaborik, MacArthur, Ryan, Zaitsev, Hainsey, etc all hitting the cap but on IR

It's shocking in the sense of what Calgary has invested into him and that some team will will come in and sign him for no more than a $1 million per season and still being useful.

He wasn't very useful this year. If we could get him back at that price, I'd think about it, but we can't

For the Oil and AA, it seems Holland is going to try and make an offer below the QO (rumour has it 2.25) and hope that he and his agent look at the situation and numbers he put up this previous year and proceed sensibly.

I honestly don’t know if a team would offer north of 2 mil for him on the open market? This is a weird year for mid to bottom tier guys.

If he doesn’t accept and walks, so be it.

Montour not getting qualified would be a disaster. They traded a 1st and a good prospect for him just a year ago, and then they spent the last year playing him on his off side with a rotating group of d-partners. They pretty much set him up to fail.

I wouldn’t go that far. Guhle is a dime a dozen prospect who will be lucky if he ends up being more than a third pairing player.

Barbashev and Sanford are already signed (they each inked 2 year deals last summer). Dunn is Blues only RFA (other than minor leaguers).

It would be great if the Flyers don’t qualify Robert Hagg but I won’t get my hopes up.

Hogg’s hit was 1.15mil for the 19-20 season. He does have arbitration rights as well.

The pick in one of the deepest drafts ever you got made this a complete robbery all by itself, Guhle is just a bonus.

2019 one of the deepest ever? I don’t know about that. And the guy we picked there looks like he will be a decent NHLer but far from a superstar, likely a middle 6 forward if all goes well.

I wanna see Montour not be qualified and end up on the Leafs.. always thought he would excel there

Like Barrie? Montour is similar one dimensional player. Not sure what role he has on a team that already has a very good offensive d-man.

And that would still be better than Montour, who has been about as useful as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.

If a player isn't qualified, it doesn't automatically mean the team doesn't want him back. It just means they don't want him back at that number.

I think the concept of not qualifying a player because of arbitration is more click-bait than anything.

Arbitration hearings typically happen well after free agency begins. While I believe you are limited to using other RFA deals, all you need is a few players to sign before then to establish a new "COVID-benchmark".

That being said, there will likely be some guys not qualified, simply because their qualifying offers no longer make sense in the world of a fixed budget. Only so much salary can be shed when nobody's really buying.

These are the 20 "bigger name" RFAs. Which of these won't be getting QO?

Virtually all of these are locks to get qualified. Connor Brown and Anthony Duclair are the least likely of the group but even they get a QO in my opinion. None of these guys are making so much that qualifying them hurts you.
