Prospects

All about the young players preparing to enter the NHL.

As my 2nd last ranking, I can say that this is one of my favorite classes ever. I love some of the plays and think there are some real dark horse players in here. Next month for my final ranking, it will include and in depth write up on all 217 of my projected draft picks. Enjoy, and as always feel free to ask any questions. 1. D Rasmus Dahlin 2. LW/RW Andrei Svechnikov 3. LW/RW Filip Zadina 4. D Quinn Hughes 5. RW Oliver Wahlstrom 6. D Evan Bouchard 7. D Adam Boqvist 8. D Noah Dobson 9. C...

Kakko has surpassed Hughes for me for the 2nd time this year. My list for this year seems to be settling, earlier this year I wasn’t confident of my 1st round and was always shuffling around players but lately it’s pretty compact. I don’t see much changing soon unless I’m blown away by a prospect. At this point I think I can give a good scouting report for any prospect in my top 100 and a few past that. Haven’t had as much time lately to watch games Anyways, Kaapo Kakko Jack Hughes Kirby...

Regular season has concluded in Russian leagues, so it might make sense to start looking at the prospects and RFAs, who might decide to move to NA this offseason. And by the offseason I mean mostly the time after the 30th of April, as the KHL has changed the rules regarding contract terminations that allowed Gavrikov and Gusev to go overseas early and burn down a year of the ELC. Although I should note that every rule has an exception, as Blackhawks' prospect Ivan Nalimov has already signed...

This year is a strong year for the Americans overall. I can see anywhere from 6-8 players taken in the first round (4 possibly top 10-12) and a strong second round as well that should add another 8-10 names possibly getting their names called in June.
These are my top 217 rankings. They are my own. I watch a lot of hockey. I read a lot(and I have certain people's opinions that I take into account), but these rankings are from my own observations. This is the order I would draft these guys in without considering need, tendencies, etc. Please feel free to comment(I may not have seen every player - and I also don't get to watch every player multiple times, so if they have a poor game when I see them, it's unlikely they'll have a high...
1-Rasmus Dahlin, Buffalo, 1st overall in 2018 Rasmus is a defender with franchise level impact, he should fit in right away on the Sabres top pair, may need to be eased in on the PP time and defensively as he is still very thin and will need to fill out before being able to match up with every forward, should have a comparable impact to Auston Matthews in his first year. He will not be on this list for long, essentially already a NHL player. 2-Andrei Svechnikov Carolina, 2nd overall in 2018...
PROSPECT RANKING WRITE-UP 1. C Jack HughesU18’s, USNTDP [5’10”. 170lbs. Born on May 14, 2001.] He’s the superstar of this year’s draft. No, it’s not Kakko despite what some may tell you. Hughes is still number one. His top end skating ability and smaller frame coupled with his high IQ and playmaking ability makes him reminiscent of Patrick Kane, though they play at a different pace. Kane deliberately slows down the game whereas Hughes is a constant motor on a high tempo. Although he lacks a...

In my day job we have a tool called a pre-mortem. We discuss what could go wrong before making a significant change to a strategy or process. I am using a similar idea here. Basically, this is a prediction of what a "re-draft" in 2023 might say. The list is of players outside the consensus top 15--because it is hard to define a sleeper that everyone thinks is among the elite. 1. Martin Kaut. He is just now making a few lists as a late first-rounder. Given his size, success in international...
A small extract of the weighted rankings for the 1st round (higher weight put on ISS and McKenzie).

Here’s a quick top 40. Everyone I listed I’ve seen multiple games of. There are some guys I like (Dorofeyev and some others) but I haven’t seen enough of them to properly rank them. This list is about the guys I’ve legit watched, so if I’m missing anyone that should be on this list, feel free to drop their name and I’ll check them out. Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, it is that time of the year where the draft is getting closer which means you can partake on the festival of many draft and mock lists. Here is my annual triple threat consisting of MY 2019 draft list, what players I currently rank for the 2020 draft, and finally my mock draft which consists of the first two rounds. As most of you already know my type of scouting, I will still explain it to the ones who don't. I value hockey intelligence as one of my central...
Here are the top-100 NHL prospects today. Top-25 by position below Criteria: Each player had to be under-25, selected in an NHL draft (or signed by NHL club) and played less than 1/2 season at NHL level. Positions: Keep in mind that some of the positions change (ie, C to wing, RW to LW). I had to pick one for the positional lists, so don't kill me on that. Methodology: I use a 0-100 scale to rate players. It is largely based on combination of factors, mostly on (a) highest peak...
1. Alexis Lafreniere - The easiest ranking in my list. His blend of smarts, skill, speed, shot, and work-ethic is very rare. I don't think his potential is that much higher than the players than those ranked from 2-6, but I think he's almost a guarantee to hit his upside. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2. Tim Stutzle - The gap between the players in this tier are razor-thin. That said, Stutzle's skating and vision...
I've decided on making a rankings list rather than a Mock Draft this time :O. This will be where I feel players should be ranked, and yes there will be some crazy choices. I've seen quite a few discussions lately about whether or not the Wings should target a defenseman with the 6th OA pick. While it seems like the consensus is that people prefer a defenseman, there seems to be a disconnect whether or not it's crucial that they do so, with some people being perfectly fine with picking a forward. I've long been under the impression that it would be absolutely crucial for them to pick a defenseman with the 6th pick, because I've always thought that top pairing...
