  2. W.A.R Results 2007-12

WARNING: The following contains material consisting of the statistical construct Wins Above Replacement. If such a topic is not your cup of tea, there are countless other threads to spend your time perusing. If you are still reading there is a decent chance you have seen me ramble on about WAR before, but if not the link above should fill you in. The numbers for all forwards seasons from 2007-08 to 2011-12 have been crunched and I would like to share the results. First off, here are the...
  3. Ovechkin, Datsyuk and 2007-08 WAR

It is not an unpopular opinion to say Alex Ovechkin's 2007-08 season is the best of the 2000s. I was curious to see how it would grade by WAR. I also wanted to test how a peak Pavel Datsyuk's all around game would compare to Ovechkin's dominant goal scoring. So I went component by component, pitting them head to head in each aspect of WAR: Ovechkin, Datsyuk and the Importance of WAR. I also listed the leaders league wide for each category. For those not wanting to read the full thing, I'll...
  4. Top Centers by WAR Heading Into the 2019-20 Season

Round 2. I'll start off this time by clarifying that the specific rankings aren't the be all end all. They are made just using WAR. It is a 1.0 template list that could be further refined with the eye test and additional data. That being said, here is the top 10: McDavid Crosby Stamkos Matthews Tavares Barkov MacKinnon Bergeron Point Malkin Order may a bit off, but the players are pretty spot on. Point is the only one that didn't make the top 10 in the poll a couple weeks back. Here is...
  5. Forward Wins Above Average This Season

Some of you may remember my 2017-18 WAR leaders thread last fall. I have been tinkering with the formula and values all season. One of the major differences is the incorporation of XG. Pretty happy with the formula for forwards now. Plugged the stats from this season in ( all data via Corsica) and these are the results. Keep in mind these are wins over an AVERAGE forward.... I haven't factored in replacement level yet. I added in the players points at time of data retrieval and the...
