Yeah, that would allow the team to suspend him and then to void the contract. No way he leaves that much money on the table.

I agree with this, but my concern is that there are players in a rut because they're on a **** team but because they've only ever known **** teams they can't pull themselves out of that rut. I'm supremely worried that a big teardown is going to be necessary to change the culture. Not that these guys don't want to win - I just can't help but think they've forgotten how to.

Cory has been asking very direct questions of Peters after game. Peters is not a fan of him.

It was said in a joking manner as they all laughed after it was said. I viewed it more as the old joke that it's always just "Upper body / lower body" as they'll never tell what specifically was hurt. Cory, as a journalist, would know that a coach would rarely, if ever say what was tweaked even before asking.

Ah. Hard to get the tone in a tweet.

I'm confident in saying that is Aho wasn't on this team, the Canes would be battling Buffalo, AZ and VAN for the worst record in the NHL.
As hard as I am on our defense, we should give credit to Slavin and Pesce too. Without them we would be icing 3rd pairings all game every game. The defense would barely be a step above the defenses that had us finishing with top 10 picks almost every season.

You know what, **** it, pour it on, I want to see if Scott Darling can literally get to Toskalol's level.
.

In the past 10 seasons, here are the worst save % of goalies that played 35+ games in a season (according to NHL.com).

Darling (17/18): .885
Osgood (08/09): .886
Roloson (11/12): .886
Holmqvist( 07/08): .889
Scrivens (14/15): .890
Khabiboulin (10/11): .890
Toskola (08/09): .891

Bear in mind that the average save percentage was much lower until 2012.

What Darling's doing right now is a standard deviation below any of the others listed, when you account for global changes in save percentage.

Really. Wouldn’t be the first player to leave the Canes organization and find success elsewhere after a terrible season here. Hell, wouldn’t even be the first goalie to do so.

I don’t know exactly what’s wrong with Darling. As Kev pointed out earlier, he’s so far out of position on so many goals against now, I can’t imagine this being the norm for him in his playing career. He never would have sniffed the NHL with some the save attempts he’s made of late. Even being a little hectic in net in Chicago never produced what we’re seeing on a nightly basis here.

Which tells me it’s either a change that he’s made because the organization asked him to, or it’s a change he’s made because his confidence is so shot that he’s trying anything. Either way, getting away from the organization, finding his game again and getting another tryout elsewhere wouldn’t be too surprising.

Darling would have a GAA in the mid 5 range and a save percentage in the low 80s had he played like he is now in the mid 80s.

Does Darling use sun screen? Those red lights can be quite dangerous if exposure levels are significant.

I started thinking that I'd say I was disgusted with the team...but that's not really it. Sure we have some players who aren't playing up to snuff. We have other players that are barely NHL caliber. And we have a coach who's apparently thrown in the towel as well. What might be the worst thing is how badly the coaching staff seem to have lost this team. And I tend to agree with those who think it is doing significant damage to the broader organization.

A while back I'd felt that the team was tuning out Peters and Co. Now I'm sure that it happened, sometime in late January or so. The inability to capitalize on the February homestand. The decision not to bring in scoring help when it still could have mattered. The strange deployment of the lines and the continuation of the Darling experiment all point to chaos.

I honestly don't know how Bill Peters could survive this collapse; last night's game coupled with the Boston and Philadelphia fiascos are emblematic of the broader season. And what's really scary is that we should be negotiating extensions for Aho and Teravainen this Summer. If you're one of those young Finns, would you want to sign up for this shit show? I know I'd be considering my alternatives.

There's almost no scenario where there's not something of a significant change in personnel (Skinner, Rask, Faulk, young defender, Darling, Ward, etc.). Even if it is just a couple of those guys, it will have a big impact in the room. Hopefully it will have the right one.
