This is a pretty ridiculous idea.

What would we get for Datsyuk that would even slightly compare to what he brings to the team.

He'd return about the same value as Iginla did when he was traded. Datsyuk is the same age as Iggy was when he was dealt, their point totals are similar, both are or were the centerpieces to their teams offence. You'd be looking at getting a 1st round pick and 2 good but not great prospects.

The 1st round pick will be worse than our own pick as well considering we'd be a bottom feeder without him and anyone picking him up would have already been in playoff contention.

In what world would that be helpful for a team that's fighting for a playoff spot. Also they're not fighting for a spot because the east is terrible as you put it, they'd be in the same spot in the west too.
Wasn't Iginla a free agent at the end of the year though, so purely a rental.. Datsyuk got some more years left on the deal = More worth.

It's a pretty foolish point to discuss trading Datsyuk. Detroit is practically the reason he's even over here. If he got moved, he would probably bolt to Russia unless it was to a team he really couldn't pass up. (Like maybe PIT/BOS). Even then I would bet that he goes back overseas.

yeah, datsyuk ain't going anywhere.

but one can guarantee that if he hypothetically was available, team like blues would pay quite a lot.

moot point, though.

You'd be surprised by how little they'd pay for what they'd be getting. That's why, even outside of sentimental reasons for not trading him, it would be a horrifyingly stupid move to do so.

There are probably very few contenders with the type of assets to give up, that could ever even warrant a discussion.

I'm think we're seeing what two weeks off from the NHL does to fans...gets them to think crazy thoughts. Also doesn't help that they lost that last win before the break. The cynics are probably thinking...why are the Wings going weeks without a win?

i don't think wings would get as much in trade as he can bring to to us. but i do think the return would be good.

there really is no realistic trade for pavel. realistically i (and guess others too) would want young superstar back or at least one that has realistic potential to be one. that ain't happening.

He does, but he's also signed to a 35 plus contract, and has indicated he'd like to play in Russia to end his career.

If a team traded for him and he felt uncomfortable there's nothing to stop him from retiring, and leaving them stuck with his cap hit for the duration of his deal.

His value would be higher than Iginla's for sure, but not as much as we'd want for our franchise player. At best we'd probably get a slight improvement on the prospects we'd get back.

I think 95% of us agree that even bringing up the idea of trading Datsyuk is ridiculously hysterical. Let's just move on and stop addressing this absurd suggestion.

Back to the topic at hand. As someone said a few posts ago, Weiss coming back is the major wild card (along with Franzen's health) as it doesn't look like the Wings will be very active at the deadline. If Weiss can contribute even half of what Zetterberg does then we have a pretty good shot at the playoffs, providing Datsyuk continues to heal as he seems to be doing.

If Datsyuk stays healthy, Weiss plays halfway decent, Howard continues his better 2014 play, and no other major injuries occur I think we make the playoffs. Especially if Franzen returns.

This. Please. No use in getting all upset about 1 person's opinion. If you disagree, just say why and move on.

Henrik Zetterberg (herniated disk) now flying home Thursday on NHL charter, more direct route. Will see specialist ASAP. #RedWings #Sweden

Shouldn't be long until we hear some definite news, then.

I rarely trust any foreign news sources. They seem more sensationalist than they are interested in actually reporting news.

More like sensationalist headlines transmit faster and better over the internet..

And all "swedish media" is not all equal..

It's already been discussed that it was team sweden's doctor that said that, not just "swedish media". Either way, we'll probably know before the olympics are done how the rest of his season is going to go.

I'm absolutely against to trade some valuable future pieces for some rental to replace Zetterberg for one season.

I'd rather go with kids as far as we can go and let them eat some playoff experience. That's very very valuable force for future years.

If we fall out of the playoffs, then we draft high. I'll can live with that also. We are 4 points away from the 6th overall, and 6th overall has 6.2% percentage to be 1st overall.

Pretty much for sure our 1st round pick is the last piece we should trade, if he has some chances to be the 1st overall. Or even at TOP6.

Imagine how hilarious it would be if we miss the playoffs for the first time in 22 years and win the draft lottery
