Carlo and McAvoy's combined age is 39 years and 251 days. It will take another four months (give or take) before they are the same age as Chara.

I hope he keeps this level of play up next season. It will be invaluable for the future of our young guys to play with him for a few seasons. Give him 1-year extensions as long as he can keep up with the play (even if it is just on the third-pair as a pk specialist)

Carlo and McAvoy have very promising careers ahead of them. Chara is old and declining but he is still very servicable as a top defenseman. I still want to add a solid dman for next year though. We have to expect hiccups from Carlo and McAvoy as most defensemen take years to fully develop. We have to expect a continued drop off in Chara's game. There will be growing pains moving forward, and we can't put so much pressure and rely upon Z and these 2 kids next year. Adding a quality top 4 veteran defender this summer gives us depth and more options, which will be a major advantage... especially when injuries occur.

Agreed. There's no better mentor in the league right now for any young defenseman. People forget how incredibly smart Chara is... He knows absolutely everything about the game. He's an absolute freak of an athlete, Tom Brady-esque in his dedication. Whether your an offensive, defensive, or two-way defenseman, you can learn so much from him.

He's still very effective. Barring injuries there's no reason why he wouldn't be an extremely effective 2nd/3rd pairing D who's elite on the PK for years to come. His time as a #1 is over, and we're milking as much as we can right now, but Z has looked terrific this season, especially since Cassidy took over.

The big man is going to struggle on dump ins but all in all he's still a top pairing guy. Monstrous on the PK, still a threat with his clapper. He needs Carlo, Carlo needs him.

Can we praise the captain?

Man the physical game he's playing at his age is unreal. Last night at the game you could hear the boards shake from the 300 level every time he took a guy out. He's punishing the sens every time he can.

Grandpa can still bring it. He must have played close to 40 minutes last night. Guy is a warrior even though he's slowed down.

I noticed that too. He hit harder and harder as the game progressed. There were a couple hits along the boards that were huge, but just behind the play. He has picked up the physical play this series. He and Backes are doing everything possible to respond to the heavy play of the Sens. He played 36 mins last night. He hasn't been perfect this series, but then again he has had to try to make up for having half the starting d-corps out with injury.

One of the greats. Now that the kids can play big minutes, reduce his role and he could play another five years. I really don't want to see him hang up the skates anytime soon, definitely my favorite Bruin of the last 10 years.

I am so glad how nicely he bounced back this year. He almost looks like vintage Chara. What a warrior.

What are the chances that this guy gets sits more next season? With Krug, Carlo, McAvoy, K. Miller, McQuaid, and other guys coming up through the system it would be nice to give Chara more rest till' playoffs start.

His legs are showing, but that's it. He's still a freak athlete capable of being a good player for beyond his current contract.

He's not a true #1 anymore, hasn't for a while now, but to have him as a mentor to our young dmen is priceless. McAvoy will help him a lot next season.

I'll say this. There is no other guy who could survive in this league at the footspeed Chara has. And that's not just because he is 6'9". It's because a physical freak of nature.

I will say this, however: I would not protect him in the expansion draft. I really do think a step forward for this team is somehow moving on. The Chara era is over.

Chara is still a #1 to me. Especially how he played in the playoffs. Monster minutes. More physical than we've seen in a while.

Better depth around him and he can lead the B's.

He's still a good player, but I just feel that this isn't the right system for him. Bruins new approach is to play fast pace and pass often, I don't think Chara has the legs to play in that type of system for a full season and be productive in the playoffs.

Good to great season for the future HOF.

Next season, I would give Krug and Carlo the top pairing minutes at 5v5 while dropping Chara down to the 2nd pairing, but the top PK unit and in closing out the game situations.

5v5

Krug -- Carlo

Chara -- McAvoy

KMiller -- McQuaid

PP1

Krug -- McAvoy ( Krug in the Spooner position along the halfboards assuming that Spooner is gone )

PP2

Krug -- McAvoy ( both on the points )

PK1

Chara -- Carlo

PK2

KMiller -- McQuaid

PK3

Chara -- McAvoy

Glad Chara played as well as he did this year, he has his detractors, but I'm glad he's still a Bruin.

He had a good bounce back year. No complaints from me. The Julien defensive system makes defenseman take a beating. Constant cycling as opponents pound them. He benifited from the change this year. As much as he helped Carlo, I think Carlo helped him due his steadiness. So sign me up next year @ 4mil all day. Still can't believe he played 40 mins the other day.

He has a year left on his contract ,don't have a problem paying him 4 mil. Will see what happens after that.He may want to retire he will be 41 He can't be there number one Defenceman much longer and he shouldn't be ,if a 41 yr old is your number one D ,than your defence has some serious problems.
