Klef had 38 in 82 as his best offensive season and Rielly had 36 in 82 in his best playing on a far worse offensive team (Leafs offense that year was hilariously bad).

Given that Rielly is far better defensively, Klefbom is not nearly as good as Rielly.

Throw in how much better Zaitsev is than Larsson and the Leafs have a much better defense going forward.

Quick reply, nothing better to do huh.

"Rielly is far better defensively" really... tell me more.
Klefbom is and always has been superior defensively, the offense developed this last year, and he passed Rielly in that category.

I'm not even an Oilers fan, and their defense is so clearly better than the leafs its not even funny to say otherwise. Seriously, I don't know what complex leafs fans like yourself have, but the Oilers have a far superior defensive group (the vast majority of non-biased fans would agree) and their forward groups are comparable (but again I'll go with the Oilers because their top guys beat out their leaf counterparts). The only thing the leafs are better at, at this point in time, is forward depth.

I almost feel bad for you.

The same ones who said the Leafs wouldn't sniff the playoffs for 5 years?

Yeah I wouldn't take their opinions too seriously :)

Did you really just use NHL.com as a reputable source to decide which defenseman is better?

Klefbom is superior to any leafs defenseman, and Larsson would arguably be the #1 in Toronto, and would most certainly be on the top-pair.

Larsson would be in tough to beat out Hainsey for the #4 spot.

Klefbom would be in a tough comp with rielly andngards for playing time.

Oh don't worry they've already convinced themselves that Nylander is superior to Draisaitl.

They're just hurt because the Oilers 3 pieces at forward (McDavid, Draisaitl, Puljujarvi) are greater than their big three (Matthews, Nylander, Marner) and the Oilers top 4 (Klefbom, Larsson, Sekera, Nurse) is miles ahead of (Rielly, Gardiner, Zaitsev, Hainsey). So they have to make a poll about it every week.

yep, we're really hurting right now in leafs nation.

so. much. hurting.

nothing but hurt.

So your saying your opinion> all the experts? Because most seem to rate the leafs d as better.
I think you might be over rating the Oilers players by quite a bit my man.

Not my opinion, but the general consensus of many people who watch a lot of hockey, would rather have Klefbom-Larsson. And what "hockey experts" think the leafs D is better? Toronto Sports Net? Who else. Thats all.

I've already seen oilers fans turn on their management for bungling things and express envy for the leafs team and management group. That's just the beginning too.

Sure hasn't been evident on the scoresheet for the start of the season...

Leafs: 6-1-0 <-- 3.14 GA/GP --- 83.3%PK
Oilers: 2-4-0 <-- 3.33 GA/GP --- 74.1%PK

Zaitsev if you watch hockey it's obvious. What's the basis of Larson being better?? That's he's better defensively? Not by much. it doesn't matter anyway because Zaitsev is one of the better 2 way dmen and he is still getting better.

Larson has no offensive game at. How many seasons did it take for Larson to score what zaitsev has in his first season and 7 games?? Lmao
There' simply no doubt Zaitsev is the better overall defender. I can't believe it's even being argued.

Funny that you pull out the "if you watch hockey", but then your last sentence is the ramblings of someone who just reads the stat line. It took Larsson seasons to develop his offensive game because New Jersey was using him in a pure shutdown role. Hard to put up points with no offensive zone starts, playing shut down against the top line of the other time.

When will that offensive game come around then?

Klefbom would be the best defenceman on Toronto by a wide margin. Reilly andgards would be desperately trying to make 3rd pair on the Oilers.

In your nightmares
I view this as fa signing vs highly touted 1st rounder. Both have their pros and cons but I'll take an over achieving free wallet over a strong d but overall meh high pick.

Larsson is better defensively but Zaitsev is far better offensively. Zaitsev has also taken a big step defensively and he, Rielly and Hainsey have looked great so far for us this season. I prefer the Leafs backend a lot more given it's a lot more mobile. Leafs have a better offence and more mobile back-end; recipe to win in this NHL.

If they don't, the Oilers will be ****ed

They're still f***ed. Those Drai+McDavid contracts will do them dirty in the long run. You're not supposed to have depth problems this early in a team's competitive cycle. Assuming they do pan out (and JP specifically isn't looking good in the AHL right now); that's MORE money they have to spend on potentially elite players which shatters depth yet again.
