I dont get to watch many games anymore, moving to indiana isnt a large hockey area, i remenber reading all these great things about him as a leader in Rochester, and I had such high hopes. Then he seemed to fall off the face of the earth, then reappear in calgary, do well, and now in Chicago.

What kind of Role does he play now. is he a more defensive fwd, or that pesky rugged hard nose grinding players a team needs.

He's a gritty nose grinding player. When we signed Nichol last July, we all shook our heads in pity, but he has been pretty good (its too bad we couldnt say the same about nieminen, but he's not our problem anymore). He's fast, he plays well defensively, stands up for his teammates, and he wins faceoffs. I could stand to see a little more body checking from him, but on that note, he's like 5'10".

well I guess Nieminen's our problem now.....3 goals in his last 4 games. we'll learn to live with it somehow.
seems like both teams are happy with a virtual 'swap' of Nichol for Niemenen

Not too many to list for the Kings:
1988 70th overall Rob Blake
1990 133rd overall Robert Lang
1991 81st overall Alexei Zhitnik
1993 250th overall Kimmo Timonen
1996 96th overall Eric Belanger
2000 118th overall Lubomir Visnovsky

Luc Robitaille comes to mind. :)

Plenty of other 4th+ round picks have played this year: (some simply because of the injuries)
Pirnes, Clarke, Zizka, Brennan, Strbak, Corvo and Cristobal Huet

the thing is, ill warn you that it is just like when he joined the hawks. When he first played, he had a strong start with something like 3 points in 5 games, so our fans started to really like him. However, after a little while, he fizzled down to nothing.

For his sake (and Calgary's), I hope that he can stay hot for longer than he did with us.

Since this seems to be Chicago, where's Dominik Hasek? (10th round, 199th overall) Seems to me that was a steal... sorry, would've been...

Ain't too shabby. It's too early to tell on most of our drafts (we still have late rounders from 1999 in the works), but from 1998-2001, we were 3 for 4 in terms of pulling an NHL caliber 4th rounder or later. :yo:

2000 and later nobody made it yet, but there are a few players to keep an eye on there.

Also Knuble in 1991 was a 4th rounder.

I'll do in the Patrick era, so starting 1990

Proven Steals:
Patrick Lalime- 1993 6th round(156)
Jan Hrdina- 1995 5th round(128)
Michal Rozsival- 1996 4th round(105)
Ryan Malone- 1999 4th round(115)
Tomas Surovy- 2001 4th round(120)
Andy Chiodo- 2003 7th round(199)

NHL regulars:
Chris Tamer- 1990 4th round(68)
Ian Moran- 1990 6th round(107)
Serge Aubin- 1994 7th round(161)
Andrew Ference- 1997 8th round(208)
Tom Kostopolous- 1999 7th round(204)

Could Be:
Rob Scuderi- 1998 5th round(134)
Vladimir Malenkykh- 1999 5th round(157)
Michel Oullet- 2000 4th round(124)
David Koci- 2000 5th round(146)
Ben Eaves- 2001 4th round(121)
Tomas Duba- 2001 7th round(217)
Daniel Fernholm- 2002 4th round(101)
Bobby Geopfert- 2002 6th round(171)
Patrick Bartschi- 2002 7th round(202)
Maxime Talbot- 2002 8th round(234)
Paul Bissonette- 2003 4th round(121)
Matt Moulson- 2003 9th round(263)

I dont know if i would call some of those guys "proven" or "steals".

For instance, Chiodo isn't proven yet. He has looked good so far but has played less than ten games in his vareer. IMO, he still has alot left to prove.

And I wouldn't call Rozsival, Hrdina or Lalime "steals" as i guess to me a steal is someone who has a siginificant impact in the NHL. I would also rank Kostopoulos ahead of Rozsival as he is a better player IMO. Roz had the one good year and has been average since.

Yeah but the only reason there isnt much there is because the Thrash haven't been around that long. Exelby was a great pick up that late.

Good luck with that one. Maybe he has turned a corner, but he was awful in Pittsburgh as well.... I didnt even like him when he was here, and thats rare for me to say about a player on my Pens.
