So let's jump ahead a little bit and see what prospects you think can make your team within the next 2 years. What kind of line-up do you think your team will ice after next season and do you think you'll be able to compete for the Stanley Cup?

You can get creative and add some free agents, or trades if you want. The point is to see what prospects can crack your team in the future and on what lines will they play.

2019-20 MONTREAL

Lines with point totals

Pacioretty (65) - Drouin (73) - Lehkonen (54)
Zadina (60) - Galchenyuk (66) - Gallagher (55)
Hudon (39) - Danault (40) - Scherbak (34)
Bitten (18) - Evans (20) - McCarron (17)
extras: De La Rose, Deslauriers, Carr
wildcard: Poehling

Mete (33) - Weber (41)
Alzner (17) - Petry (34)
Reilly (24) - Juulsen (15)
extras: Lernout, Benn

Price - Lindgren

Overall assessement: A bit difficult for Montreal since we have a lot of question marks at center, but I'm not gonna predict any big moves for now. The team is youngish and has some good potential, but of course an upgrade on D would be needed. Pacioretty is our big trade chip, since we have depth up on wing to replace him and we have holes to fill at C and D.

Offense: B+ (a bunch of solid offensive guys mixed in with speed and two-way guys. Plenty of potential. Lacking a true #1 C.)

Defense: C- (Weber/Petry/Alzner are getting old and who knows how they will perform. Mete/Juulsen not quite there yet but the potential is there. Reilly is a decent 6th guy. Trading Patch for a young top-4 guy would help tremendously.)

Goaltending: A- (Assuming Price regains form this should be a great tandem, Lindgren has some good potential and should be a decent backup for a while)

STANLEY CUP HOPES: Truthfully without changes I see Montreal fighting for a playoff spot but won't be a contender. An upgrade at C and at D is needed. They are 2 quality players away. Adding Zadina makes Pacioretty expendable.

Getting Hanifin and Carlson is something I can see realistically happening in jersey. Shero pulls off many fantastic deals, so I see something along the lines of Severson+ for him, as well as signing Carlson is free agency.

If this team clicks, something huge can come, with an even better squad from last season. Maybe not a cup favorite, but definitely a team who can fit in and compete.

Seems reasonable to expect Drouin to go from 46 points to 73. Overall your points are way too high. If those guys hit those totals Montreal will compete for a Cup. And we all know all they’re competing for is Jack Hughes.

Hot take on Karlsson and managing to move Marleau.

(I know teams rarely use different PP layouts but this makes more sense to me to fit everyone in.) Powerplay could be deadly.
Namestnikov/Spooner/Georgiev/Zucc traded
Rangers have 3 1sts this year and I think we’ll add another 1st for next year somehow as well, just assuming they haven’t cracked the league yet. This doesn’t include FA signings as well this is just all from our system.

Things are in flux for 18, so 19 is a lot of guessing.

Zykov (48) - Aho (73) - Teravainen - (62)
player acquired (48) - Lindholm (56) - Svechnikov (61)
McGinn (38) - Staal (41) - Roy (39)
Foegele (36) - Necas (42) - Williams (38) [not sure if Williams is still active]

Slavin (37) - Pesce (31)
Hanifin (35) - van Riemsdyk (22)
Fleury (19) - Bean (27) [Bean has played on right and may need to if Faulk is moved]

Darling - Nedeljkovic [could really be anyone, I don't anticipate Darling, but if he doesn't get moved/let go this preseason, then it probably means he has once again defied the odds]

Why are we moving our best center to the wing?

Let me know if I ruined your day with this post.

For CAR I don't see them all 3 of Faulk, Hanafin and TVR. At least 1 will be gone. I'd have McKeown for 3rd pair RHD. Don't think Williams does another year, so I'd have Foegele or Kuokkanen somewhere in there.

For FLA I'd have Weegar over either Petrovic or McCoshen.

I cant see why williams wouldnt do another year, he scored 51 points this year. Neither foegele or kuokkanen are better just yet.

If anyone will be traded from those three it will faulk, but he could be traded for anything really so I wanted to keep him there to be as accurate as possible. McKeown is not better than other rds, he is better off in Checkers.

As for weegar, you are correct, McCoshen will probably be the odd man out at the beginning.

I honestly dont see this being the Avs roster in over a year from now. I really think we sign a Free Agent like Stastny this summer and end up trading for a legit Top 6 Winger like Skinner giving us a 2nd line that looks a lot more like Skinner - Stastny - Jost instead. But without being able to accurately predict the trades and free agency signings we make this is probably the best guess at a future lineup without making any moves.

This lineup also doesn't include Kerfoot either. Avs simply have way too many B level players/prospects right now and not enough roster spots for them all. Definitely think we make a 2 or 3 pieces for 1 trade very soon.

Just yet? No. In 18 months? Most likely. Same with McKeown. We are talking about the 2019-20 season and I can't see those teams just trotting out the same line-ups for 2 more years.
