Well aware I am going to get a lot of grief for saying this, but the Devils should look into trading Cory. KK is very serviceable, and while Cory is the better goalie, he could be potentially be moved for an elite defenseman. If you get a true minute eater that could take some of the load off Greene, and in turn, cut dead weight like Lovejoy, the Devils become a very serviceable team.

Goalies don’t get returns of elite minute eating D. Especially Cory after last year... he doesn’t hold that type of value.

The time to get full value for Cory was before last season, and even if he bounces back to his usual .920 self this year he's not going to have as much value given his age and contract. Plus I still wouldn't trust Kinkaid/Wedge to give us adequate goaltending over the course of a full season.

Plus the teams that have minute-eating D to possibly trade already have a goalie. It's not like there are that many teams that magically fit into 'contender looking for a goalie' box.

Kinkaid wasn't even that great last night. People would have eviscerated Cory over the tying goal.

Winnipeg does not.

Winnipeg is not a contender and they still believe in Hellybuck being their goalie of the present/future.

Kinkaid looked very shaky last night. He's just not an NHL starter IMO. He's fine as a backup, but he is way too inconsistent to be relied on a regular basis. Cory is much more consistent. You pretty much know what you are getting on a night to night basis.

Without Cory this team becomes the Flyers with a worse defense.

Any time Kinkaid has been tasked with playing multiple games he has looked awful.

Schneider is a bonafide starter in this league. Kinkaid is a very reliable back up.

Well, we’ve been winning but our two losses came against true veteran teams.

Very curious to see how things go as the games get tighter and more defensive.

There’s still an idiot savant aspect to this team for me.

It's amazing how frequently it continues to be brought up.

It was said best above, Kinkaid is not consistent enough to be a starter. He is a reliable backup and an excellent teammate. You can see the guys love him. But there is not enough to convince me that he could be a starter going forward.

Cory is under-appreciated for what he does for this team. Had he let in some of those goals last night, people would have been sharpening their pitchforks around here.

It seems like there's usually at least one team that rides high shooting percentages to defy expectations every year. We could very well be one of those teams.

Yes our shooting percentage is high, but watching the games we are scoring a lot of goals on high quality chances. So while we may not be getting a high volume of shots, we're getting a lot of high quality chances every game.

Unreal. Just win a ****ing faceoff. Totally flushed this game down the toilet.

EXACTLY.

On the good side, this team does show resilience. Down 2-0 and score 4 unanswered. Give up the 2 goals in the last minute and a half, then go down to their final chance in the shootout and still pull it out. Last season, this game was over at 2-0.

I'm not totally concerned about the not winning face-offs issue, we do have Zajac coming back eventually. That should solve itself when Zajac gets back and as Hischier improves on the dot. I am worried about the lack of quality shutdown depth in the defense corps, though.

I think he did actually but will concede the replay angles could also be viewed as inconclusive. I'm sure a camera must have caught the real result but they didn't show definitive replay angles on the broadcast.

It was Oduya's stick that MIGHT HAVE tipped the puck into the goal(if it was tipped at all).

If so, then it's nice to see Johnny O' still scoring goals for the Devils. :sarcasm:

Disagree. Cory will still recover his game and be the Cory we know he can be.

If we want a LEGIT SHOT at making the playoffs this year, we NEED CORY.

As much as I like Kinky, he's still not much of a Starting Goaltender, imo.

I’m pretty ticked about the blown lead tonight but we also need to take it one step at a time here. You mention mediocrity. ****, mediocrity is a step in the right direction considering the teams that have been iced the last several years. Where we want this team to go, there is a long way yet, but it’s going to take time and there are going to be growing pains along the way. If they’re going to make mistakes but still manage to pile up points and be competitive in the process, that’s not a bad deal at all. Just enjoy the ride. Bottom line, this is a really fun team despite their flaws.

Of course but you don't just hold on to the puck when it's 6 on 5. (Including the goalie)

If I was any other team's coach, I would pull their goalie 5 minutes against the Devils because we had no clue what we were doing. Ottawa was winning every faceoff and kept holding the puck.

We are better than last year. Whoopie. That isn't hard to do.

A good team would of converted on the multiple chances we had.

A good team would hit a goddamn empty net.

A good team knows how to play f***ing defense.

So, no. I'm not going to blindly praise a team that's just better than last year's abomination. We shouldn't be happy with a team to just make the playoffs. With what I saw, it would be 2010 all over again if they did that.

f*** that. This team needs to actually practice 6 on 5s, getting pucks out of their own end and actual defense. If Dano can see it then all of you should.

dude they're still rebuilding...who gets mad at that. they aren't contenders this year and even if they were there are plenty of teams that are labeled as contenders that have a bad two minutes where they let up 2 goals. Other teams are good in the NHL it happens. This was the first time this year where they had an extended period of a goalie pulled on them -- it's a new situation for them as a team this year. And now they have video on what went wrong for them.

If you actually think players on this team can't hit an empty net that you have a pretty bad read on the skill level of an NHL team.

A good team FINDS WAYS TO WIN GAMES.

Oh wait! That's what we're doing, aren't we? :eek::eek: :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Last season, a game like last night ends at a 2-0 Sens shutout(maybe 2-1 if we're lucky).

The way you're speaking, you have a very miserable and pessimistic outlook on the Devils. And I can' t understand why.

It's like you WANT the Devils to struggle.

Like you WANT the Devils to fail.

All so you can say "HA! I told you so!!" as if you're expecting some kind of pat on the back or something. smh.

Being negative just for the sake of being negative about this team that is FAR EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS at this point, is just plain ridiculous.

Baby steps. Rome wasn't built in a day. I have a feeling you're comparing this team to the teams we had over our insane playoff run, which was a culture cultivated over years and years.

Also, we dominated that game. Ottawa scored on their two chances in the first and their only other chances were off of mistakes/sloppiness on the Devils part. Systematically, we controlled the game and dictated the play, which is what we need to get back to.

We're also missing two of our best defensive forwards who should help stabilize situations like the 6-on-5 last night. Even then, we blew the lead and recovered and closed out the game. That's what you want to see as this team tries to get competitive again.
