You take out that 2 minute meltdown and I think the Devils played a pretty decent game. Winnipeg is not an easy team to play against. I think they did well to keep them in check considering the size disadvantage. The game was no where near as bad as the score would suggest.

You know what he means, people with blind loyalty toward prospects/younger players who think they should play come hell or high water. I don't neccesarily believe that should be the case but I do think this whole benching nonsense has to come to an end sooner or later. Play him here or in Bingo but continuing to just sit Zacha for an extended period is silly.

Hynes is pretty much the guy you stick with for a while and then you fire him right as the team becomes a serious Stanley Cup contender. Then you bring in a veteran guy with a short shelf-life (2-3 seasons) who will ride a team in its prime to getting past whatever round they're stuck in.

How often has that actually happened though?

That's what Met fans thought was going to happen with Terry Collins lol (being the guy you hired in a rebuild to fire when the team got good), but he stayed through the end of the Mets' short-lived run :P

I used to roll with 1 skinny, 2 medium, 1 fat.

I'd just run all over the ice with the skinny guy and anytime the fat guy was near the goal I'd pass it to him.

The thing that ruined that game was that the AI didnt recognize a "pass" as a shot, so you could score at will by passing the puck into the net with the skinny guy. Memories!

Fetus lovers? What does this mean?

It's the typical HFBoards poster who wants a 19 year old, 3rd Round draft pick, who he's SURE is a a future Hall of Famer if he was JUST given a chance already, would be given minutes over the 32 year old, ten year veteran with 2 Stanley Cups and 5 all-star game appearances.

Because those HFBoards internet keyboard jockeys know way more about the sport of ice hockey than gray-haired NHL brass who have more years of professional ice hockey experience then they have years of....... breathing air.

That's a fetus lover - and they are plentiful on HFBoards.

Well then we should expect to see Hynes be with the Devils when they make the Stanley Cup Finals then..... :D

(I mean Terry was around when the Mets made the WS....lol)

people are starting to talk about hynes like AV and the rangers. i dont know any team that is happy with their coach. i think hynes has the team believing in a system and playing hard every night. thats all i ask with a coach in his position.
I feel like Hynes is almost like a younger, really pale and hairless version of AV. They both employ similar style's as well.

I think the team is definitely buying into this system and I think Hynes knows what he's doing, as far as how he wants to play and the type of system that he wants, I just don't think it's the right way to play. I've already been over the play the game ''Not to lose'', rather than playing to win. I think he's a poor X's and O's coach. I think he knows what he's trying to do, it's just a bad way to.

i mean i have never seen someone use hyperbole as much as you. Zacha is a 6th overall pick who is 20 years old. and your statement would only be true if you know for sure that most in the NHL would scratch him which you don't know. This reminds of the argument people used when Larsson was getting healthy scratched all the time. And sure Zacha might not turn out to be good but that reflects badly on them too considering he was a 6th overall pick two years ago. Anyway I doubt Hynes will continue this for long stretches because he does seem to give young guys some rope and I imagine he doesn't want to have Zacha not playing for long stretches.

yeah thats tough, I dont know how you're gonna Carry That Weight !
One of the only Beatles songs that I care for, not named Helter Skelter.

I don't really like the other parts to the song, I know it's like a 3 part song or something. Only like the Carry That Weight part of the song. I also have a really pleasant memory involving that song. And in recent times, my friend's brother, who is a huge Beatles fan, said something like ''Think of Kovalchuk singing that song to Lou, after he retired from the NHL''. That was just a couple months ago when he said that. I got a real laugh out of it, as random as it was.

While small sample sizes mean shit to me, I think it's appropriate to use it in the context to say that we really could benefit from putting Zacha in on Monday.

Zacha hasn't scored enough points, or at least not as many as we'd like, I think we can all agree on this.

But he's also on pace for 27 points, while playing under 15 minutes a game. And all but one of his points are at even strength, and last year he was pretty good on the power play.

I get 'fetus lover' for what it means here and I'm really the last one the complain about these things but there's gotta be a better way to reference what you're all refering to.
I was seriously believing you were meaning it to be some kind of political thing, Lol

Hopefully he puts Zacha in on Monday, and he better not negate it by playing Prout over Severson or some shit. Prout for Lovejoy might be acceptable, but I don't even think Lovejoy has been that bad recently. I still want him gone next year, as we'd probably benefit from upgrading our D and using Moore's spot and I don't think he wants to stay on as a #7 for another year, but that's not my point.

The only reason Prout would be in on Monday is out of pity for having him sit for so long.

Write this one off on a team that's just shooting at a very high level right now, where shots are just hitting the back of the net against most teams they play, and keep the D lineup the same.

I am curious what the underlying issue is for Zacha. Are they trying to correct something technical and the sitting is just to allow time for him to work out the issue or are they sitting him to try to get him angry to fire him up? I can’t imagine they sit him four of five because he is playing inconsistently. He’s young and that’s sort of expected. They are also choosing to sit him rather than send him down so they must not see the current situation as a long term one. Odd that the team acknowledged speaking to the agent.

They should be telling him to SHOOT the puck more, because that's something that he's VERY bad at doing. His shot isn't bad, just his reluctance to shoot it.

That's why I don't wanna hear about his compete level or what he's doing collectively or some other Hynesism cliche. Tell him he should be shooting the puck, for starters.

We probably should be playing him a little more as well. His points per 60 minutes isn't that bad.

Some songs bring back strong memories, some good, some bad, I have pin-point memories of exactly where I was when a certain song was first played ...and I mean from 30+ years ago !

After today's game, if he scratches Zacha, then I'll think this whole matter is a bit more troubling.

Because those three minutes of chicken dancing were enough to get someone out of the lineup, despite how solid the rest of the game was.

I understand the issue people have with Boyle on the pp but that’s no excuse for the team’s play that second period. Putting Boyle on the pp is nowhere near as embarrassing as the way they just played.

Fine by that, but you have a young player sitting for the exact same reason while the team is laying an egg left and right.

I'm not quite old enough to remember when those songs were first played haha. They predate me by a bit.

I remember hooking up with what become a long-term girlfriend, for the first time. And during cuddle time, I heard that song blaring, from someone in her house, I think her parents. They weren't home when we were having the indoor Olympics, but we were having a post-event cuddle and they came home, which we didn't even hear them come in, and all of the sudden I heard that song playing. I don't think it was the first time I heard it, because I was already in my early 20's by then and I probably heard it as a kid at some point. I remember hearing that song playing in my head for days after that, whenever I woke up haha.

Sounds like good memories Bleed !
and I'm not old enough to remember the first time Beatles songs were played either! I was just generalizing music and my memory. I have a bad short term memory, but good long term memory...it's weird. I still remember Kirk Muller scoring goals for the Devils, but very few from last season!

I can remember Muller scoring goals for the Devils, at least towards the end of his time here. I also remember Sean Burke being terrible. Too bad the internet didn't exist back in 1988-1991. I would have made 80000 trade proposals involving something around Sean Burke for Mike Richter. I was a huge Richter fan, and hated the f*** out of Sean Burke. He wasn't even good for the Devils, he didn't really get remarkably good until the late 90's, when he met up with Benoit Allaire in Phoenix and was already like 32.

I have a Muller jersey from way back then. I can proudly say it doesn't fit anymore. I was a really big kid, and wore an XL when I was like 11 or 12 years old. I need a few Medium's at this point! A size Large would be doable!
