1. The team plays a much more offensive style under Oates and as a result finish 1st in the East again and are fun to watch again :)

2. Backstrom and Ovechkin are both in the top 5 in scoring.

Backstrom - 20g 40a 60p
Ovechkin - 31g 34a 65p

(assuming a 50 game season)

3. Marcus Johansson takes huge strides this year, which is huge for the team, but also will cause him to get a decent sized contract in the near future.

4. Mike Green stays healthy and returns to his old form, jumping into the play, leading the rush, and being a top tier offensive defenseman.

5. Alzner and Carlson both build off their strong playoffs and have great years.

6. Dmitri Orlov plays much like Slava Voynov did for the Kings last year, helping the team tremendously along the way.

In three days time Kuznetsov will defect from Russia on the back of a yak.

He outsmarts the KGB time and time again on a superhuman trek through the Urals.

After that - Evgeny catches a British attack submarine at the shores of the Kara Sea and arrives in
Washington three weeks after the season opener.

Kuznetsov proceeds to lead the Caps to the Cup.

Mission accomplished.

I hope the fact Ovy and Backstrom spent a couple of months playing together in the KHL will do a lot of good for Washington this season. Logically, but logic is not associated with the Capitals

Prediction : Caps lose in conference finals.

Breakout year for MJ90 - almost hits PPG. Oates is fired mid-season.

Wilson plays in a few games with the Caps before his return to the OHL.
Wojtek Wolski experiment fails fast, he finishes the year in Hershey. Mathieu Perreault steps up.
Ovechkin gets 30 goals in a 50-game season. This number isn't random - he had 29 in the last 50 GP of the last season.
Ribeiro does exactly what he's expected to do and offensive numbers of players on his line (Johansson, Chimera, Laich) sky rocket (well, aside from Chimera's; his offensive numbers stay the same, which is equal in value).

Considering the Caps have had five different goalies start for them in the playoffs over the past five years, the safest bet to be the starting goaltender is Grubauer.
