With Hatheway gone, I like this very much. NAK has been a sparkplug (albeit one who also makes mistakes) for the Caps. Doesn't over commit to a player that bounces around a lot, but fills Washington's 4RW vacancy next season.

Malenstyn has not shown himself to be an NHL-quality player, and certainly not better than NAK. Beck also just turned 25, so calling him a prospect at this point is stretching things.

Interesting. More $$$ than i would've expected for him, given the way he's bounced around. Has he been that good for the Caps? It's not much, but these are generally the sort of bottom-of-roster contracts where teams are trying to pinch pennies and shave off every last cent that they can. It is also only for 1-year though, so it's not a big commitment, and that's probably the best way to approach these sort of depth players to keep them hungry and not tie yourself to anything if you want to tinker and try to get a fresh spark in the bottom-6 from year to year.
