Caps have 5.5 mill to sign 7 players . Someone should offer sheet Grubauer
You sign him to an offer sheet that Washington can't match and then you're giving up a 2nd round pick in compensation. Not really all that different from what the Caps would get in a Grubauer trade (late 1st/early 2nd). I suppose there's a few teams expected to be picking in the later 2nd round that it could be a relatively cheaper move, but just about all of those teams are either out of cap space and/or have their goalie position set already.

Either way, it wouldn't really be a huge blow to Washington.

Good job by Caps but in agreement they may pay for not ponying up more years and cash in the future.

They should try and trade him anyways . Graubauer deserves a chance to play more games and Challenge for a starting position Caps need the cap space and Holtby can handle up to 70 games. Caps should also sign Grigorenko for a million .. And add some low cost dman

I imagine they are / have been trying to trade him but the goalie market is a buyer's market right now.

Sound fine....

But the other deals by the Caps?

I wonder if the GM watching Gilligans Island reruns and huffing down Capt'nCrunch. Somebody better check the brownies.

Good thing we have a goalie in ahl to replace him. Anyways caps are fine, they have about 2.5 million to work with on Grubauer

way off... caps have a current commitment of around 69.4 mill to 16 players... if we say the team stays 100% healthy and never needs callups we are still likely adding 6 contracts at an average of at least 700 k before guebeur

adding 4.2 to 69.4 takes us to 73.6

now... will washington want to spend every single penny of their cap?

you are at least double the amount of room they really have

Grigorenko already signed with CSKA Moscow.

There's not going to be a taker for Grubauer at the moment. Caps would be better off to hold onto him until someone is willing to play full value. Saving a few hundred thousand to sign more bargain bin players won't make a difference for the Capitals. They're going to roll with the kids from Hershey and see how it goes. Best case scenario, they get Penguin-like performances from them and they can stay relevant. More likely that they dont and they are a playoff bubble team, but having a JM Liles or Nick Schultz on a $1M deal wouldn't change that.

the guy i see as potential trade is john carlsson... a ufa after this season... caps wont have the 6.5 mill needed to sign him next year unless they massively gut their team.

as a bruin fan i might be tempted to give them carlo but id have to make sure carlsson extended his deal

Someone should have offer sheeted Burakovsky. Caps couldnt match anything over 3.8 and the return would have been 2nd. Luckily it didnt go there.

Sheeting Grubauer isnt that attractive. Caps will match up to 2m, maybe more. Propably easier just to trade for the guy, Caps are listening offers.

Edit. should have read further, Hivemind already said this much :)

Ended the season great(ly). If he can put a whole season together like that, he's a 70 point player.

Cap fans are clearly in denial about their cap situation.

Lars Eller will be the next to go.

not sure thats a bad thing. it is what it is. if the kids experiment is a disaster by the trade deadline one would think bigger names then Eller would be moved to free up cap space.
