If he had played the whole season he would have hit 20 goals easily imo

15 goals in 66 games

That's not even a 20 goal pace... yet he would have hit 20 easily? :help:

He didn't say he was on pace for 20 goals (though it comes out to 18.6 :shakehead). He was saying if he played those extra 16 games he would've hit 20, and I totally agree.

Yeah sometimes players get hurt during a noticeable hot streak, or just as they start to get going. I remember the same thing happened with Booth in Vancouver (when he got knee'd in Colorado); that was the beginning of the end of his career.

But yeah basically they're hoping they can get Kuznetzov, Burakovsky and Orlov for under 13 million. Then promote Vrana and Djoos for 1.5 million. Then they've got 3.1 million and a lineup that looks like this:

Ovi-Backs-Oshie
Mojo-Kuz-bura
Vrana-Eller-Connolly
Xxx-Beagle-Wilson

Orpik-Niskanen
Orlov-Carlson
Djoos-Chorney(or replacement)

They fill in the last two spots with cheap players, for under 3.1 together. The last D and the last winger

Or they somehow move Orpik or Mojo. Those are their options.

They need to sign Grubauer as well.

As somebody already said - a healthy scratch during playoffs....or his ice time went to nothing

Sounds like the GM is sayin' ..."welp, this is who we have on hand...so"

So despite shooting at an unsustainable 18.5%, and that his icetime was trending downwards as the season ended... he was going to get even better on that if he somehow had played those 16 games? LOL. Yep, sure thing. :shakehead :sarcasm:

And then overpaying for him by around 50%... and for a cap team that has some big contracts to still deal with this summer and next...

It's glorious to continue to watch a them flounder about.

He's a good shot attempt player. Fit in with Eller pretty well. Still seems expensive, but I suppose you could do worse with bottom-six players.

He was a healthy scratch in the playoffs because we had 7 good D's. We won't have this "problem" next year, so he won't be scratched.

Try actually watching the player and some games instead of retrospectively looking at a stat sheet to draw some conclusions.

I watched him all year. He would not have hit 20G if he played those games. Most of the games he missed came before his hot streak with Burakovsky and Eller started. He wasn't injured to bring him down to 66 games, it was scratches. He was in and out of the lineup in the October-December timeframe, before finally getting hot in January/February on the 65-20-10 line. His season long goal totals were essentially buoyed by an absurd shooting% during that two month span.

That being said, $1.5M is still fine for what he brings. He's a 9th/10th forward that helps drive possession and can contribute some depth scoring.

he's a slightly below average third liner who can't really be a 4th line grinder, but given the low cap hit and the Caps situation it's fine.

edit: what Hivemind sort of said.

This.

If Alzner was 100% Connolly doesn't get scratched and plays his normal 8-10 min.

Also what Hivemind said. ;)
