    I just realized something.

If Germany beats Switzerland, which is likely because SUI can't play one level abover their standard 3 times in a row, and germany hasn't really shown everything they have yet.

So, if GER beats SUI, then Finnland could use Germany to get rid of CZE.
Think about it. They lose their Last game, but at the same time kick one heavy gold favorite out. As soon as the KO round starts, CZE would not mind the bad results from the preliminarys but be as hot for gold as any of the big 7.

With SUI in, and GER over CZE - it would be Big 6 only...

Ok but why would Finland do that? It would just give a group B team another easy opponent ...

Edit : I've just noticed that you're German. Then I didn't even need to post this message, you just want Germany to play in the quarters. I understand that.

Finland would never do that, besides it'd make it easier for the other group, not for Finland.

    Can they kick out Canada?

    Finland 3 0 0
    Canada 2 1 0
    Switzerland 2 1 0
    Czech Rep. 1 2 0
    Germany 0 2 1
    Italy 0 2 1

Now if Canada loses to Finland and Czech
    Czech beats Italy and Canada
Finland beats Canada, loses to Germany
Switzerland beats Italy, loses to Germany.

    Finland 4 1 0
    Swiss 3 2 0
    Czech 3 2 0
    Germany 2 2 1
    Canada 2 3 0 (OMG 5th place and out!!!!!!)
    Italy 0 4 1

OMG Canada has to win at least one of them. This is too close for my liking.

all teams still have 2 games left, nothing is settled yet and Italy and Germany will be the only 2 teams out. Top 4 in each group makes it.

OMG! It really looks like Canada will lose to Finnland, and you are right if the CZE can get their act together then Finnland could kick Canada out by taking it easy on Germany...

And don't tell me getting rid of Canada would not be desireable for them!

I don't think the Finns CAN play so badly that they would lose to Germany, even if they tried . . . ;)

It's like that question: "could God make a rock so big even He couldn't lift it?" :)

Actually we want revenge from the World Cup. Can't have that
if CAN is out. You apparently don't know our stubborn Finnish
    mindset too well :)

"likely"? Man, I really hope we'll kick your a$$ now... We don't have
to play one level above our standard to beat you, we just have to
play at our level. However, this is not granted with us. Don't
compare yourself to Canada or the Czech though, pretty please... ;-)

I have just got to, sorry.

Finland with one N, not two.

And I doubt the Finns would even think the thought of trying to lose to give us swedes a easier opponent in the quarterfinals :sarcasm:

    :D

True, but that's only to wear you guys out that little bit extra,
so you wouldn't make those extraordinary comebacks when you
    play against us.

Germany and Switzerland are on the same level.
And seriously you guys had all the luck in the world against CZE and CAN, you got outshot brutally and your goaltending was stellar.
Let's see how you do when you have to make the play; You're the favorites now after all.
You don't have to be a prophet to tell that this is going to be an exiting match, and if germany can get their act together, maybe they can put your guys back to earth :)

I say 60/40 for germany... :jump:

If you read my post in the Miracle thread you would see that I
agree with you. We have a hard time if we are the favourite and
right now we are definately favourites after beating Canada and
the Czech Republic. Good goaltending is not a question of luck,
btw. Gerber and Aebischer are two very good goalies. It will
be a very interesting game, especially because the game against
Canada must have cost a lot of energy as well (lots of PKing).

I just didn't like that you said we had to play a level above
our standard to beat germany. This might have been true if
both Sturm and Hecht would have played. Now it's more or less
    an even playing field. :)

This isn't soccer, where the games are fixed.

And I'm not a soccer basher, it's one of my favorite sports... I think the World Cup was ruined in 2002 from the horrid refs. (Italian)

    just read that post in the other topic;

    i didn't mean that SUI has to play "1 level above" to be able to take on GER;
as a matter of fact what i meant to say is that i just hope your team isn't doing that because if they are as sharp as against CZE and CAN, then GER is in deep deep trouble. So i'm hoping we gert to play the "normal" swiss team :p

As far as Goaltending goes, it is a lot about lets say "good fortune". Video Judge anyone? I mean Jagr's shot got deflected by Kölzig only to hit Goc's shoulderpad and bounce into the net. So lets say you didn't have any bad luck to say the least.

If there isn´t something tanglible for Finland to fight for at Germany game, that could very well end in Ger victory. Becouse of this stupid scedule quarterfinal game is in the very next day, so Finland might just take it easy. Sadly I thought don´t believe in this scenario.
