Swiss WC-roster have been announced:

Goalie:
44 Marco Bührer (Bern)
26 Martin Gerber (Anaheim/NHL)
1 Ronnie Rüeger (Lugano)
Defence:
29 Beat Forster (Davos)
33 Steve Hirschi (Lugano)
22 Olivier Keller (Lugano)
9 Reto Kobach (Ambrì)
31 Mathias Seger (ZSC Lions)
11 Martin Steinegger (Bern)
7 Mark Streit (ZSC Lions)
3 Julien Vauclair (Binghamton/AHL)???
Offense:
16 Andres Ambühl (Davos)
57 Goran Bezina (Springfield/AHL)
18 Luca Cereda (Bern)
12 Patric Della Rossa (ZSC Lions)
21 Patrick Fischer (Zug)
35 Sandy Jeannin (Lugano)
30 Marcel Jenni (Färjestad/SWE)
23 Thierry Paterlini (Davos)
28 Martin Plüss (Kloten)
36 Marc Reichert (Kloten)
32 Ivo Rüthemann (Bern)
97 Adrian Wichser (Lugano)
27 Valentin Wirz (Fribourg)
38 Thomas Ziegler (Bern)

A littel bit uncertain are Jenni, because he's not fit yet and Vauclair because the Senators didn't let him go yet.

Vaulcair won't play to WC just like Germany's Schubert. The Sens don't let them go because Binghampton needs them for the AHL playoffs.

not quite right. binghamton is out of play-off-race after giving up two games straight to norfolk (0-3 each).
and since the big sens are facing elimination, too, there should be no problems for schubert and vauclair joining their respective national teams.

I think that roster looks pretty strong (the american one).
I look forward to see Dustin Brown and Ryan Malone play on the larger surface.
The only players I am unfamiliar with are goalie Alex Westlund and forward Andy Roach.

Andy Roach plays for the Mannheim Eagels of the DEL. He is listed as a defender.

for some stats: www.adler-mannheim.de ( OK , it's in german ;) )

Yes, for Czechs it looks like 15 + goals after the first group is finished. This, however, might be disadvatage because team does not meet any strong opponent before the quatrefinals and might be,! no, this will NOT happen to us!, eliminated.

Oh yes, Havlat would be great but the roster is already overcrowded by NHLers. Lener said that he will wait how the series end, so sole of the players might arrive just for the quatrefinal, semi and final. Yes final! :yo:

Yeah, I read Melichar was cut officially from the Czech team today. And that Kraft is still there and could make the team. I hope he makes it. He had a great year this year and I think it would be a nice reward.

Do you think Germany is so easy to beat? Last year only 0-4 in a hard battle and 2001 it was 2-2. Germany almost beat Team Canada in Quarterfinals last year, too.

Patrik Elias is coming to play for the Czechs. Elias is IMO the best left winger in the NHL with Kovalchuk right now.

The first line could be a big threat: Elias - Straka - Jagr.

Czechs are my favourites to win, but anything can happen.

Alexei Yashin and Oleg Kvasha are coming to play for Russia. Good news for team Russia.

But WHY isn´t Zherdev playing? I would have loved to see the best teenage hockey player in the world to play for team Russia. Kovalchuk, Zherdev, Ovechkin....Well, I guess I have to settle for just Ovy and Kovo... :)

Latvia isn't such an easy pushover either. They've generally always been pleasurable to watch and can provide an intensity that the likes of Kazakhstan can't.

Is Latvia going to send some younger players, I know during the olympics many of their players were just older players who have been around since Soviet Union days. It looks like they won't get Karlis Skrastins because he is in the playoffs for Colorado, but does anyone know if Ozolinsh or Irbe will go?

Zherdev and Russia have much animosity towards each other now with that whole Russian transfer deal and Zherdev skipping his military commitment. Just a hunch from me, but I would be suprised if Zherdev EVER plays for the Russian national team within the next 6-10 years if not ever again

In his interview on March 12, 2004 with Dmitry Pavlovich from Soviet Sport
Nikolai Zherdev talks about his trial and other stuff:
-Yes I had to go to Switzerland and stand before judge. I had to miss two games because of that. Preparations also took some time. I had to meet with lawyers, answer many questions, sign papers. All day business – then game at night, I was so tired and not focused! I am glad it’s all over now. I knew that Russian side had no chance. Right after the court I flew back to the US. Switzerland was nice
though. CSKA and RHL representatives I didn’t see nor heard before the judge, but I had very warm conversation with CSKA vise-president Valery Guschin. We greeted each other, but didn’t talk for long wich was unfortunate because I had
few questions to ask him. I am glad that everyone can see that I was right and I was not in Russian Army.
I still want to represent Russia on international stage. I hope all this will be behind and I will have a chance to play for Team Russia again. It is unfortunate
that I missed my last chance to participate in World Junior Championships this year.
Shall I come to Russia this summer? I have not thought about this, but if I do, I know I might be taken to Russian Army and I want to play hockey! I plan to go to Kiev, Ukraine.

Nice to see Ullmann make it. He can be a player and he's only scratched the surface.

Just some updates, with the Preds out of the playoffs:

Tomas Vokoun has accepted an invitation from the Czech team, and is the expected starter. Roman Cechmanek will likely be the backup. Vokoun hopes a good performance here will help springboard him to the Olympic team.

Martin Erat and Marek Zidlicky were also invited, but declined. Erat wants to keep his focus on the next NHL season, and Zidlicky is still suffering from a concussion incurred in game 1 of the playoffs.

Andreas Johansson has accepted an invitation to play for Sweden

Scott Walker declined an invitation to play for Canada, due to a fractured foot\birth of a new baby daughter.

Mark Eaton declined an invitation to play for Team USA, as he intends to keep his focus on his weight training in preparation for next season. David Legwand and Adam Hall have both been approached to play for USA, but have not committed yet.

He definetely deserves to make it.
I think he's a better player then Hrdina.
Plus, his confidence will go sky high with a roster spot.
