It's no secret that the Oilers haven't gotten off to a great start this season. Talbot has underwhelmed, the defense has looked porous, and McDavid is outside the top-20 in league scoring. As such, the Oilers currently sit well out of a playoff spot, currently sitting five points out with zero games in hand. They're third-last in the entire league.

Western Conference
C1. St. Louis (13-3-1) 27 points
P1. Los Angeles (11-3-2) 24 points
C2. Winnipeg (8-4-3) 19 points
P2. Vegas (10-5-1) 21 points
C3. Nashville (8-5-2) 18 points
P3. Vancouver (8-6-2) 18 points
WC1. Dallas (9-7-0) 18 points
WC2. Calgary (9-7-0) 18 points
----------------------------
9. Chicago (8-7-2) 18 points
10. Colorado (8-7-1) 17 points
11. Anaheim (7-6-3) 17 points
12. San Jose (8-6-0) 16 points
13. Minnesota (7-7-2) 16 points
14. Edmonton (6-9-1) 13 points
15. Arizona (2-13-3) 7 points

Where do you see Edmonton ending up in the standings? Which of their Pacific Division rivals do you see them passing?

And, most importantly -- do you see them making the playoffs?

I really hope they do because if they don't and end up winning the lottery to get Dahlin I will loose my shit.

No.

They're not that good and their record is exactly indicative of what kind of team they are.

They have a 13 percent chance of making it right now....
Putting stock into playoff odds ~16 games into the season is pure stupidity imo. Those numbers are whack

That being said, I don't think the Oilers make it. They dug themselves a hole and aren't showing any signs of improving. TMac is a shit coach and Chia loves staring at his 11M cap space

Probably but they better wake up soon because I don't think they're good enough to go on a huge sustained run to make up a huge deficit.

SO right now they are five points outside of the wildcard spot. Considering we have play only two divisional games its not unheard of to making it back in.

Other than LA, the Pacific is crap. It doesn’t help that they didn’t have a good October.

He or she isn't wrong though. The Oilers aren't a good team right now and are full marks for the crappy record.

So you believe they are playing to their maximum capability? Advanced stats posted in other threads would argue otherwise and that the team is playing below potential.

The poster said that they haven't been that good and their record is indicative of what they are. I'd have to agree, there's a lot of wrong with the team right now. Of course they aren't playing to their potential but they aren't good right now or unlucky to have a poor record, they deserve this record.

No, their underlying stats are pretty good but eventually their stats will diminish a bit and their record will improve and they'll end up around 78-84 point team by the end of the season.

I think they'll recover a bit, but I think the injury bug will hit them eventually. You can't go two seasons being very healthy throughout your roster.
