I knew he would be good, I just didn't think he be this good. His passing and smarts remind a bit of Brian Leetch's.

Didn't the Avs have 20 prospects better than him.

:whatever:

You just never know with prospects I guess. Bug he also is getting the opportunity that maybe he doesn't get elsewhere.

He has been real good and I'm glad an off signing steal has worked out for the devils. But with that said, a lot of those points have been secondary assists.

So could you just kindly forget about him for now. Don't jinx anything. Thanks.

I was told the Avs had 20 prospects better than him and that he had no room for him on their NHL roster.

He has faults, obviously, but his skill with the puck and vision are fantastic.

I knew he could be good but for me I thought Meloche, Timmins, Bigras, Lindholm, Makar were better than him I guess I’m wrong so far.. 20 better prospect is funny considering Avs aren’t even top 10.. Avs are league leader we were told we would be bottom 3 again see it’s early in season to make these things :naughty: Glad to see the Devils that good and it’s good for Butcher we also like Kerfoot so it’s a great swap I guess

He's amazing. I don't think we've had a defenseman who could pass like this since Rafalski.

NJD are looking pretty good. There seems to be alot of young teams on the rise. I don't know much about Butcher aside from his deciding not to sign with the Avs, but it's always nice to see these kids succeed.

Good start for him, but I still don't see him being someone that we'll miss.
Seriously? I mean he currently has more points then not only any Av's rookie, but anyone on their roster, Your team is off to an unexpected good start but how can you not care with a guy like this getting away?

Considering good offensive defensemen don't grow on trees I don't buy it either. If someone really feels that way, it's probably a good thing you're not a GM.

Biggest reason is that it's too early. I'll wait at least until the half way mark of the season. We've seen this situation before where a rookie will come out guns blazing and then fizzle out.

Also he wouldn't have had room on this roster so he'd be in the AHL. The Devils were the perfect situation for him.

I get being conservative with a projection, but Will Butcher is currently tied for 4th in the NHL in points. Among ALL players. No chance in hell he would be off your roster. He would lead your team in scoring.

Butcher's the first rookie to record 8 assists in their first 5 games since Sergei Makarov in 89-90. This isn't just an ordinary hot start, he's shining like the sun.

there is literally zero chance he would have 5 PPP on colorado soo no he wouldn't be leading our team in scoring.

Haha hey, I'm no scout.

But yes, he wouldn't have made our roster most likely. And if he did it'd be bottom pairing.

right on, the kerfoot/butcher swap was good for everyone. and the avs have the results to show that it was true. just one of those things and dont worry im not saving the post. we will see how it goes.

Wasn't Markarov like 30 that season too?

Um...what’s wrong with saying that, yes, he most certainly belongs in the league on anyone’s roster while also acknowledging that we aren’t even two weeks into the season, let alone Butcher’s career?

Butcher wouldn't get as much luxury getting sheltered like he is with the Devils, or being given prime PP opportunity. I have to agree, I don't think he's a guy we'll miss too much.

Hes off to a great start and better than I thought he'd do, but I'm still not sold he'll be more than a #5-6 PP specialist.

I would still love having him in the system, but he's also benefiting from the Devils having a great start and opportunity, similar to how Yakupov and Andrighetto is benefitting from the the opportunity with the Avs. Or similar to how Blandisi got the opportunity with the Devils a few seasons ago.
