i go onto nhl.com and look at rookie leaders for goaltenders and he isnt considered one isnt this his first season in the league?

Because of his old age.

There is a "Sergei Makarov Rule" that was put in after Makarov, a superstar in the Soviet Union and internationally came to over and won rookie of the year as a 31 year old.

"To be considered a rookie, a player must not have played in 25 or more NHL games in any preceding seasons, nor in six or more NHL games in each of any two preceding seasons. Any player at least 26 years of age (by September 15th of that season) is not considered a rookie"
