Just browsing the WJC Russian preview (http://hockeysfuture.com/article.php?sid=9323) and they mention him as an "underperforming forward". I can honestly say, I have no memory of the oilers drafting this kid. I thought Mikhnov soured them forever on Russians.

Anyone know what the story is on this guy?

He had a fairly strong 2005-06 season where he led his Russian Elite League team in scoring with 23 points in 40 games (at the age of 18). He's struggled this season but it sounds like he has played through some injuries so he could still be a diamond in the rough.

Samsonov #2. He was a player to have in this summers draft. Keeping in mind the mindset of todays Russians players he could have gone earlier. They can make as much money there as in the NHL without leaving home.
