But when you compare the Leafs with the rest of the Original 6, it's kind of sad.

You MUST be a VERY young man. Here's a little advice: Next time you have a glimpse of the ACC focus on the ceiling.

Ace Bailey
Bill Barilko
Johnny Bower
Turk Broda
Teeder Kennedy
Syl Apps
Frank Mahovolich
Charlie Conacher
Tim Horton
King Clancy
George Armstrong

...not sure if that is all of them. Sittler is the only post '67 player that has been added, although Salming and Keon SHOULD definitely be up there.

The Leafs under Conn Smythe and later Punch Imlach won their cups by constantly retooling the team and getting younger. If you look at the Leaf cup winners, especially the 1947-51 teams, you would be shocked at the roster turn over rate. There were no fat cats because you couldn't afford to be complacent under the Little General. The Leafs had plenty of great players in their franchise, but Smythe was not afraid to make deals and ship them out and develop new stars.

BTW, up to 1967 when the Leafs organization got a malignant tumour named Harold Ballard, the Cup count was:
Montreal 13
Toronto Maple Leafs/St Pats/Arenas 13 --- one as the Arenas and 1 as the St Pats, but still the same franchise.

I have to hand it to everyone in here...this has been more civilized than expected.
