Just wanted to throw these numbers to judge how some of you would react :

Ovechkin last year : 53GP, 13G, 10A, 23P, 42 PIMs

Malkin this year (so far) : 29GP, 6G, 11A, 17P, 14 PIMs

Both at 18.

Thoughts?

Oh and of course, the quality of the league has gone up and Malkin faces better competition and has a tougher depth chart in front of him this year.

Yeah, he's also playing w/a much better supporting cast.

Homer? I'm only giving stats? How am I a homer? I didn't comment on these numbers.

BTW, name me the NHL players that play on Malkin's line?
And now name me the NHL players that play on Ovechkin's line?

Yep, your own argument turns against you.

The difference is 24GP +7G -1A +6P +28PIMs. Any other questions?

How? You compared Malkin's stats from this year to Ovechkin's stats from last year. So Ovechkin playing with NHLers too this season makes no difference here, or?

You'd think so... but Evilo doesn't make a lot of sense...

i.e. he can compare numbers when it suits him, but don't mention Fleury's 4.11 GAA and .863 sv% after the month of October last year.

Yep I compare them because I compare the stats AT THE SAME AGE.
Yes playing with NHLers makes a big difference, especially when you play one of the staring role like Ovechkin has.

You should avoid personnal attacks when you feel you're in a bad position.

You say I give stats when they suit me, but it seems Fleury's amazing stats to start the season don't suit you much, huh? Nor do that great stats he put in the Q, which you judged "average".

So what NHLers did Ovechkin play with last year?

Ero...you got served.

I did? Um, okay.

His response was asinine.

It doesn't matter who Ovechkin has on his line this year, for two simple reasons:

1. You're comparing Malkin's #s THIS year to Ovechkin's #s LAST year. Hello?

2. Ovechkin has led his team this year. W/the exception of Rosa, AO has been carrying the load for guys like Datsyuk and Afhinigenov, and is WELL above the pace he had last year.

AO>EM. everyday.

Hello!!! Malkin this year has Ovechkin's age last year.

So poor Alex has to play with talented NHLers like Datsuyk and Afinoguenov?
Ovechkin has played well this year no doubt, and he's better each year.
WHat I find interesting is that Malkin's pace this year is superior to AO last year. At the same age.

That's your opinion, and it's respectable.
It's probably my opinion too. Though the "everyday" is a bit too much, as the gap has probably closed.
I just pointed out something I thought interesting.

That's an extremely strange comment.. Am I missing something here?
Malkin doesn't play with any current NHLer on his line this year. So he has all the drawbacks of the lockout :
1- his team has better depth. He doesn't get as much icetime as he could have.
2- he faces tougher competition.
3- he doesn't have NHLers on his line to get some points.

Malkin is a very good player and has played quite impressively this season, however it would be great to see the average ice time both players have seen (Malkin this season, and Ovechkin last season) to really make a comparison. For all I know Malkin may be playing fewer minutes this season and outproducing Ovechkin but it could also be the other way around, where Malkin is seeing quite a few more minutes per game then Ovechkin did last season.

I'm pretty sure Ovechkin doesn't play on the same line as those two, I believe he plays with Chupin and Rosa, but correct me if im wrong.

You don't understand.

Malkin's pace this year, (he's a few months older than Ovechkin was, btw) benefits from the NHL influx, whereas Ovechkin didn't last year.

Possible.
I don't have the numbers.
I know Malkin is playing most of the time on the third line, that's all I can give you.

I think you're right. But he plays with these guys on the PP though...
But in any case, he's having first line icetime.

Nope as I said, Malkin is only getting the drawbacks of the NHL influx.
