Trade for Rick Nash with huge overpayment. Rick Nash scores one goal in the remaining games for the canes. Will not resign . The canes will miss the playoffs by one point. They will draft 14th overall. Best players from the farm traded to New York Rangers. Suicide rate and alcoholism rate shoot up within the Canes fans ranks

Rick Nash for Saarela and two 2nds

Yeah, of course...but in which way. ANSWER THE DAMN POLL. ;)

If you must know I voted, "Nothing or minor moves only", and those minor moves will represent a portion of the feces in the linens. Their overall play will represent the other portion.

In other words, Shit.The.Bed.

One problem is, the Canes really don't have anything to sell (in the traditional sense) outside of Ward, who the really can't let go of. Ryan and Stempniak? Meh, might get a late round pick. Anyone else becomes more of an offseason type deal rather than a deadline deal.

Addition by subtraction BBA, addition by subtraction...:D

This trade deadline will show us if Tom Dungdung is really interested in the team - or if he's just a rich prick who likes telling women at posh parties that he owns a NHL team.

I can see it now. The start of the next regular season. Our starting goalie - drumroll - Scott Darling. "He really got his head straight this summer. He'll do great." says Peters while sipping whiskey from a brown paper bag. In the background, Ron Francis is hugging a life-size poster of Scott Darling.
First game - three ridiculously easy goals allowed in the first five minutes. Aho, Staal and Teräväinen head to the airport, and fly to northern Finland for ice-fishing. After the game, Ron Francis blames the defence, the weather, the economy, Trump...
All the while Cam Ward is relaxing in southern Mexico, throwing back tequilas, and telling stories to local senoritas.

Sorry. I might have had a few drinks.

October ice-fishing sounds like an apt euphenism.

This, moreso than Francis’ actual decisions, is why I don’t think we’ll sell anything at the deadline.

A GM would have to be hysterically stupid to give up assets for either Ryan or Stempniak, and the rest of the lineup generally has an identifiable long-term purpose. There’s not much good in trading players who fit, but are overslotted for whatever reason.

Judging by previous years with Francis, I expect minor moves, like selling Stempniak, Kruger, Jooris, Dalhbeck, maybe Ryan. Of course if any team wants to take them. That's a big IF. I don't see us buying, Francis is not the one who will overpay at this moment.

Maybe not Francis, but Dundon might. He's the one with the money after all.

By late round pick, I mean I could see Ryan and Stempniak getting anywhere from a 3rd - 5th round pick.

Hainsey, who was more valuable got a late 2nd.
Stalberg got a late 3rd round pick.
Liles got a 3rd and a 5th
Versteeg got Zykov and a conditional 5th
Gleason got a 4th round pick
Tlusty got a conditional 6th and a 3rd the following season

Sekera and Staal had better returns, but were much more marquee players.

Ponikarovsky scored us a 4th round pick that turned into Slavin. Sometimes darts hit.

True, but that has nothing to do with predicting what draft pick they'll return (which is what this discussion was). If the Canes decide to sell, the certainly should move those guys for the best they can get as something is better than nothing and you might get lucky. Just that we have a weaker pool of UFAs to be vs. prior seasons.
