I thought I would create this thread to facilitate some ideas of what game is worth watching and why today and perhaps going forward.

Torn today between Pit-Edm (Edm with Drai in) as perhaps statement game and TB-Car as two good young teams going at it. So what is your take?

dodgers astros. who do u guys think will win the game and series?
They seem pretty even to me! I think the bookies have the Dodgers as favorites.
Yeah, I bet on the Astros for the series because the bet was 1.45 I think.
Bet 100 win 145 - something like that.
If you bet the Dodgers, it was like bet 100 to win 60 dollars or something.

That doesn't sound right. Why would you bet 100 to win 60?

Leafs Home Board
Caught parts of Edmonton/Pitts & TB/Carolina and NYI/Arizona games last night.

Connor McDavid was dancing (beauty of laser shot over Murray's shoulder) ... TB with Kucherov continues to roll (Sergatchev is impressive rookie with his 4th of the year already) and Johnny Tavares with the Hattrick and a 4 pointer (could have dad even more).

I watch a ton of Hockey even when the Leafs aren't playing.

I could watch as many as 15 games a week and catch parts of many others, particularly tuning into the last 5 minutes of tie/close games that effect the Leafs and then love watching 3-3 OT.

That is how the book makers do it - a lot of people will bet the Dodgers - risking 100 dollars to win back just 60 Dollars. They'll make the bet because they think the Dodgers are that much better - I presume.

But, like you, it seems a bad bed to me - when you can't even win your money back.

Think of the favorite horse at the racetrack. You can bet 2.00 to win/place/show and - at times, literally, win .20 cents on a 2.00 bet AND PEOPLE MAKE THOSE BETS.

Yeah I understand that. I use to box 5/6 horses for the trifecta and at times you'd bet more than you win.
I think you meant if you bet 100 and win you'd get back 160(100 bet+60 win). If they are the favourites the Astros must return more than 145?

I think it's just the way you wrote it. It sounded like even if you won you'd lose $40.

Yes, you are right - I probably worded it poorly.

If you bet 100 on the Dodgers and they win, you get back 160 dollars, so, you've won 60 dollars.
I was trying to emphasize that you have to risk 100 to win 60 - is what I was saying.

Yeah, no, the Astros - had they won the first game, the payback would of been 145 dollars, so, if you bet 100 you get back 245 thus you actually win 145.

Again, risk 100 but can win 145 versus risk 100 but can win just 60.

So, yeah, you get all that - sorry!

Lol...no worries.

I'm having fun using the sportsbook money - trying to find a system (crazy thinking I know).

So far, I'm doing okay, up from the 15,000 to about 17000, making 100 dollar bets ONLY on underdogs - never taking the favorite,

So, I won't bet unless I can make what I risk or more.

Again, I'm ahead, but, it's mostly because (and I know absolutely ZERO about football) but, I bet that 100 dollars 6 to 1 and the New York Giants (I think that was the team) won - WHAT AN UNDERDOG.

So, that represents most of my winnings. but it's fun and it's FREE.

I use to gamble a lot when I was young. Preferred going to the track, hustling old guys on the golf course or pool table than having to work. All that changed once the kids came, money seemed to hold a lot more value.
An old hustler told me this about gambling a long time ago, "it's hard to win if you're afraid to lose".

Now the only gambling I do is buying wine that I've never tried before. I never go over $20 a bottle and rarely lose!

You have a good view about gambling. I really like gambling, too much, but, can't really afford to do it, cause - well, I guess I'm not good enough at it to win much. But, fortunately, whenever I go to casinos to play blackjack or, well, that's pretty much my favorite game, once my bankroll is gone, I've never had problems just walking away - usually sad, but, just walk away and never chased losses, so, I"m luck in that way.

There was a time - you'd remember - when casinos first became popular, and I grew up on the prairies, so, they had casinos in Regina, Calgary, Winnipeg, etc. and you could play blackjack and BACK COUNT, this actually really worked and for a very short time I made a little money whenever I went to casinos and played blackjack - it's impossible to do now.

They had shoes of 4 or 6 decks and didn't shuffle till the end - and when the casinos first started out they usually weren't packed, so, there was often empty chairs. So, if you stood behind the players and counted the cards, waited for the count to turn positive with lots of high cards, and then put down bets, you were always betting when you had a slightly better chance of winning. This wasn't always taken kindly by people sitting at the tables, but, so what.
It only lasted a while, soon, the tables were always full of players and now, they reshuffle or whatever - I don't even follow anymore. But, for a short time there, it was possible to make money at blackjack. I never made much and sometimes I still lost even in a system that favored the player but it was a great feeling going to the casino and back counting and knowing whenever I was making a bet, that I actually had a slightly better chance of winning the bet than losing.

Too many chase the losses which is sad, those are the ones with an addiction problem.
You have the right approach, have a stake and only use that.
At the track we would have our stake that would cover the 10 races, we wouldn't cash our tickets until leaving.
Sometimes we'd be down, other times we'd be up. We'd almost always get close to our money back.
Never chase losses, never bet winnings. (my motto anyway)
