If there's anything this game was good for it was knowing for sure that Kinkaid is our guy these playoffs no matter what. Rough 2018 for Cory to say the least, he's been terrible.
I thought he had a good game. It's a number crunch right now though and I have to think they side with the veterans, at least to start. Especially if MoJo comes back, hard to see them going with Bratt. I mean if we get down in a series and they're looking to change the tides a bit then I could see them going with Bratt for sure.
we’re fine. honestly i’m just impressed with how the boys showed up without our top guys in the lineup.
time for business. lgd.
honestly if we didn’t rest anyone i firmly believe tonight’s outcome is very different. we hung with them just fine as it was.
poor cory. kinkaid is playing every playoff game.
The thing I love the most is that we have another line gelling. I feel like our biggest weakness offensively was that while we ere getting 1st line production and secondary scoring from our bottom 6, we weren't getting 2nd line points. This Wood-Zacha-Maroon line is making me feel a lot better about our forwards. That our C-team would manage to come back from 3-1 down to tie it and make it a game is absolutely impressive.
Much worse than that for Cory.
His overall future going forward is now in question.
This one game where we sat a bunch of starters doesn’t put his whole future in question, that is an absurd take.
This was not the defensive performance you wanted to see in front of a struggling goalie. He was fighting it all night, and the blantent miscues made it worse.
If you are in a groove you can fight through it, but I don’t see how you can fix and rebuild your game in a game like this.
The FACT that our C team came back from a 3-1 deficit to tie it and make it a game, speaks A LOT for our depth.
AND MAROON.
How about the last 15 or soThis one game where we sat a bunch of starters doesn’t put his whole future in question, that is an absurd take.
We weren’t supposed to make the playoffs. Nico is a weak 1st overall. We wouldn’t survive the road trip of doom. Flordia was definitely catching us.
**** the doubters.
This one game where we sat a bunch of starters doesn’t put his whole future in question, that is an absurd take.
Cory is in a bad position right now.
He had a couple of good saves in that game but the moment that a critical save or two was needed, he couldn't get it done.
Plus, as both @severian and @DevNets *accurately* pointed out, Cory hasn't been good at all his last 15 games or so(last night's game was not the exception but the norm).
Whether you think it's an absurd take or not, @Emperoreddy , it's the unfortunate truth that at this moment in time, we are without a backup Goaltender.
The only way we can see is whether Cory had truly lost his ability to play the position is when NEXT SEASON comes around.
We have much better things to worry about so for now Cory won’t even be on my mind. Kink has earned the right to lead this team in the playoffs. Cory has all offseason to work on whatever went wrong and see if he can get back on track.
You’re correct. His play as a whole over the last 2 seasons is what puts his whole future in question. The only thing that could be labeled absurd in the post is saying it’s based on one game instead of the last 2 years. But his future is most certainly in question now. This one game where we sat a bunch of starters doesn’t put his whole future in question, that is an absurd take.
Are we Making excuses for cory underperforming... he's played more games against non playoff teams then kk has( which one can argue he plays better vs the elite teams) 2 seasons in a row after December/Jan cory has crapped the bed, and have we not stuck with the better goalie, it would have been 2 seasons in a row he managed to blow a playoff spot for usIt certainly hasn't helped that Cory's last two games were against San Jose and Washington, two teams that the Devils seem to match up particularly badly against in most aspects. Obviously you can't look for a situation like this in a tight playoff race, but it would've been nice if Schneider could've been eased back in after his injury and gotten starts against some lesser opponents or better matchups for the team, but at a stage where every point mattered you can't blame the staff for sticking with the hot hand in Kinkaid.
Boy after browsing the main boards you would think we were all about the conspiracies last night. Losing to avoid Pitt, purposely denying Ovie his 50th by not pulling Cory. What a gong show.
