If there's anything this game was good for it was knowing for sure that Kinkaid is our guy these playoffs no matter what. Rough 2018 for Cory to say the least, he's been terrible.

This was not the defensive performance you wanted to see in front of a struggling goalie. He was fighting it all night, and the blantent miscues made it worse.

If you are in a groove you can fight through it, but I don’t see how you can fix and rebuild your game in a game like this.

I thought he had a good game. It's a number crunch right now though and I have to think they side with the veterans, at least to start. Especially if MoJo comes back, hard to see them going with Bratt. I mean if we get down in a series and they're looking to change the tides a bit then I could see them going with Bratt for sure.

Hopefully he gets some time here and there.....just to have a taste of the playoffs at least.

Yeah I agree with siding with the veterans here.

That our C-team would manage to come back from 3-1 down to tie it and make it a game is absolutely impressive. :)
The thing I love the most is that we have another line gelling. I feel like our biggest weakness offensively was that while we ere getting 1st line production and secondary scoring from our bottom 6, we weren't getting 2nd line points. This Wood-Zacha-Maroon line is making me feel a lot better about our forwards.

I kind of wish we could find the same stability on the back end, but I guess we just don't have the guns to put together pairings I trust. At least we now have a goaltender that can cover up for them.

I'm thinking we can make some waves once playoffs start. I'm already suffering from hockey withdrawl and it's only been a few hours since our last game. Can't wait to get the show on the road.

This one game where we sat a bunch of starters doesn’t put his whole future in question, that is an absurd take.

Well one should be used to the amount of scorching hot takes around here so.....what's one more, right? :dunno:

But regardless, this game had 3 goals that Cory had zero shot at stopping.....but it also had 2 others that could've(and should've) been stopped. Maybe they were quality shots but you have to make the critical save when your team needs it. Cory did not do that.

I really don't know what to make of him anymore.....

It certainly hasn't helped that Cory's last two games were against San Jose and Washington, two teams that the Devils seem to match up particularly badly against in most aspects. Obviously you can't look for a situation like this in a tight playoff race, but it would've been nice if Schneider could've been eased back in after his injury and gotten starts against some lesser opponents or better matchups for the team, but at a stage where every point mattered you can't blame the staff for sticking with the hot hand in Kinkaid.

The FACT that our C team came back from a 3-1 deficit to tie it and make it a game, speaks A LOT for our depth.

AND MAROON.

You are absolutely correct and that is what is exciting about the Devils and terrific for the fans as we look into the future.

Here is a problem however when Cory was great as a goaltender the team wasn't so good. This went on for a couple of years but now that the team is improving Cory has declined. Until recently Kinkaid wasn't a good backup but now he has changed to a starter. All goalie go into a slump. So as I see it we go into next season with an improving team and a declining goalie tandem. This must change. This isn't easy and a major crisis IMO. You know the options aren't good.

Attitude, yours. You have your opinion other fans have their opinion, they may not agree. But they are opinions that should be respected but all. Throwing it into their face when your opinion is born out serves zero purpose IMO. You were consistent with your opinion that's a compliment.

Meant for Emperoreddy. Missed posting the Quote. It was about opinions. Sorry.

Cory is in a bad position right now.

He had a couple of good saves in that game but the moment that a critical save or two was needed, he couldn't get it done.

Plus, as both @severian and @DevNets *accurately* pointed out, Cory hasn't been good at all his last 15 games or so(last night's game was not the exception but the norm).

Whether you think it's an absurd take or not, @Emperoreddy , it's the unfortunate truth that at this moment in time, we are without a backup Goaltender.

The only way we can see is whether Cory had truly lost his ability to play the position is when NEXT SEASON comes around.

We have much better things to worry about so for now Cory won’t even be on my mind. Kink has earned the right to lead this team in the playoffs. Cory has all offseason to work on whatever went wrong and see if he can get back on track.

Oh I agree. I was just making a scathing rebuttal to eddy calling my post an "absurd take" when it really isn't one.

Cory sucks...NOW.

Whether he sucks next season is something that we will see next season.

But for now, thank god for Kinky "PLAYING BETTER". ;)

You’re correct. His play as a whole over the last 2 seasons is what puts his whole future in question. The only thing that could be labeled absurd in the post is saying it’s based on one game instead of the last 2 years. But his future is most certainly in question now.

We sat some of our most important players. The other team has the best goalscorer in the world. We gave up quality scoring chances.

But sometimes as a goalie you need to overcome all that and make some saves you’re not supposed to make and just win through determination. It’s been 3+ months of some making these excuses for Schneider and somehow Kinkaid has an outstanding record on the same team.

Boy after browsing the main boards you would think we were all about the conspiracies last night. Losing to avoid Pitt, purposely denying Ovie his 50th by not pulling Cory. What a gong show.

Are we Making excuses for cory underperforming... he's played more games against non playoff teams then kk has( which one can argue he plays better vs the elite teams) 2 seasons in a row after December/Jan cory has crapped the bed, and have we not stuck with the better goalie, it would have been 2 seasons in a row he managed to blow a playoff spot for us

Considering how GOD-AWFUL Cory has been, that's the LAST thing they should be complaining about.

If anything, keeping Cory in gave Ovy the opportunity for 50. But he couldn't get it done. :sarcasm:
