1 Washington - Alexander Ovechkin (LW)- The total package, an explosive offensive talent
    *No doubt about it…consensus #1!

2 Pittsburgh - Evgeny Malkin (C)- Mature, crafty centerman is always one of the more visible players out on the ice
*The Pens needs everything…they’ill take the best player available!

3 Chicago - Rostislav Olesz (C)- complete package, a universal player with size, grit, skill and speed
    * After the Heatley-Kovalchuk and Nash-Zherdev duets here comes the Ruutu-Olesz!

4 Columbus - Cam Barker (D)- has the talent to be the best two-way defenseman in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft
*They need a star d-man…they know they wont get that with Klesla!

5 Phoenix - Andrew Ladd (RW)- may be the most NHL-ready prospect among the `04 class
*The Coyotes are pretty solid up the middle but could use help on the wings!

6 Rangers - A.J. Thelen (D)- Rangy rearguard with terrific forward and side-to-side mobility
*Surprise!Surprise! Why Thelen so high??? Because the Rags love this guy so much!

7 Florida- Lauri Tukonen (RW)-Terrific skater with lots of explosiveness for a big man
*Big, fast with grit…the Cats loves those players!

8 Carolina- Drew Stafford (C)- Big kid is a hard-worker with a hard-nosed approach to the game
*Ladies and gentlemen…here comes the next Rod Brind’Amour!

9 Anaheim-Wojtek Wolski (LW)- A fluid, penetrating skater, the instinctive winger has soft hands and finish
*Even if they wanted a d-man, they couldnt passed on the best player available!

10 Atlanta - Kyle Chipchura (LW)- An all-around player, does everything well
*They wanted grit and character…they got it!

11 Los Angeles - Marek Schwarz (G)- Appears to be the consensus #1 goalie for the draft
*They have plenty of prospects at each positions except goaltenders!

12 Minnesota - Mike Green (D)- A rare specimen of a defenseman - mobile, skilled and one tough physically
    * The Wild want a defenseman who could be able to make the big jump right away!

13 Buffalo - Alexandre Picard (LW)-A dedicated sniper with an explosive first step
*Will ressucitate the « French connection » playing with Dumont and Brière!

14 Edmonton - Ladislav Smid (D)- Slick defensemen strongest asset is his exceptional puckhandling ability
*Their last four 1st rouders were forwards…time to get a d-man!

15 Nashville- Rob Shremp (C) -A dynamic, skilled and mature player
    * The Preds selected a good bunch of gritty players…they need skills!

16 Islanders - Boris Valabik (D)- Huge, imposing blueliner has above-average mobility for his size
*Mad Mike picked this guy to forget that he traded Chara.

17 St. Louis-Alexander Radulov (LW)- If he works hard, he could develop into a powerhouse sniper
*They have a poor depth of prospects…they need to take the best player available!

18 Montreal - Johan Fransson (D)- A skilled, smooth-skating rearguard who plays a strong transition game
*They need size and grit but they felt in love with this guy!

19 Calgary - Roman Voloshenko (LW)- A physical forward with pretty good finish.
*They enjoyed watching him dominate the last U-18!

20 Dallas - David Bolland (C) -Talented pivot has explosive acceleration and natural goal scoring instincts
    * The Stars have more than their share of 30-something forwards

21 Colorado Alvaro Montoya (G)- A flashy, colourful goalkeeper with exceptional speed and agility
    * Dont think they have a lot of confidence in Sauvé!

22 New Jersey - Wes O'Neill (D)- A strong, smooth skater, has very good agility for a player his size
    * The Devils have a reputation to go for the best player, regardless of position.

23 Rangers (from TOR) - Lauri Korpikoski (C)- Elusive, balanced skater with a smooth stride, he uses his speed to
    create scoring opportunities
    * Kind of a surprising pick but they see a potential star in him…

24 Ottawa– Johannes Salmonsson (LW)- an excellent stickhandler with good vision and impressive overall
    offensive awareness
*Can afford to make a risky pick considering their depth in young talent!

25 Vancouver - Oscar Hedman (D)- Two-way defenseman, stocky defenseman is creative and intelligent
*They had success by choosing a d-man from Modo a few years ago, why not this year too!

26 Washington (from BOS) - Carl Soderberg (C)- A premiere two-way forward who drives hard to the net
*The Caps like to draft players with all-around skills!

27 Washington (From DET)- Andrej Meszaros (D)- An offensively-skilled defenseman who loves to join in on the
    rush
*They picked the best defenseman available!

28 Tampa Bay - Devan Dubnyk (G)- A big goalie who isn’t flashy but gets the job done
    * The Bolts never have selected a goalie in the first round!

29 San Jose - Jakub Sindel (RW)-A natural goal scorer thus far at every level who thrives in one-on-one situations
*They never tought he could still be there at 29th!

30 Edmonton (From PHI) T.J. Hensick (LW)- A deft puckhandler with an ability to execute with precision in top
    gear
    * They liked Comrie they will love Hensick

Schremp at 15? Also I doubt the Oilers would take a Dman with their first, they have tons of good prospects like Lynch, Woywitka, and Greene back there...Aside from that, great job!

Radulov at 17? Schremp at 15? Montoya at 21? All of those are too low, and then Chipchura is going way too high, I'd say he'd be picked in the bottom half of Round 1.

Montoya too low IMO. The Flames head scout mentioned him, don't see slipping past us if he ever got that far.

If the Caps fail to move up, with this scenario, they'd take Meszaros and Sindel.

the pens are set at goaltender with fluery, caron, chiodo and geopfert

defense is fine with orpik, whitney, welch, lupashuck, nemec and bissonnate

they need a star forward with all the skills (they have decent forwards but none that are potential superstars) -- passing, shooting, scoring, hard work ethic, great ice vision, etc

Malkin is the only choice for the pens here and look for the them to grab another forward with the first pick in the second round

Problem with your second pick.. we have like 2872837 forwards with good potential.. washington will only take 1 forward in the first round and his name is Ovechkin. The Caps will go D-D with the last 2 picks or trade them up for a top defender. It's been mentioned on the local caps channel McPhee would like to trade up and select both Ovechkin and Barker.

THis a pretty junky draft acctually. Your picks, while some are decent, the majority are ignoring teams needs and such.

I have no idea what the "and such" refers to, but the vast majority of NHL teams take the Best Player Available rather than analyzing their "needs". With a couple of exceptions, most of these are at least three or four years away from making any significant contribution at the NHL level. In 3-to-5 years, a team's needs may, and often do, change radically.

I am not completely agree with your mock draft, but it's a great work with a detailed attention of the team needs... Here's my some interrogations:

    1) Carolina are strong down the middle, and with Staal last year, i would very surprised if the Canes take an other centerman... but nothing is impossible... IMO, Wolski is the perfect man for them...

    2) Chipchura isn't a center?

    3) Why is Wes o'Neill, a big guy, at the #22 rank? Do you not believe that the Habs would be more interested in O'Neill than in Fransson? And the Oilers with Smid?

    4) You boycotted Lisin???

    5) Why Dubnyk and not Cory Schneider?

    6) Have you forget Lukas Kaspar?

    7) And, IMO, Bruce Graham should be there...

    8) And the Flyers at the Stanley Cup??? Ah, ah... :lol

However, that remains a realistic scenario, but a little bit eccentric, sometimes... but the future will say it to us...

    Chippy is way to high.

The Thrashers have some nice possibilities right here (in this mock):

    1.) draft Picard
    2.) draft Radulov
    3.) draft O'Neill
    4.) draft Schremp

5.)*trade the pick and a roster player to obtain a proven young D-man.*

I'm not really sure, which of these guys is the BPA, but I would rank (off and on the ice) them in that order.

  17. Wild are looking for another offensive dynamo...

If Radulov and Schremp are on the board, no way any team would take Chipchura first. He's somebody who is more apt to be a mid to late first rounder (though I hope the Isles pick him up at #16.)

Also, would the Isles take Valabik over O'Neill? Almost definately not. In fact, I would be a little surprised to see Minny take Green over Wes.

Where do you get the information that the Rangers LOVE Thelen and Korpikoski? I think that that is WAY off, if you can get links, I'll believe you. I'll put up a mock draft of my own soon.

there is no way the Isles are taking Valabik over O'Neill (or Radulov if he's still there...which he won't be!).

    Mad Mike's Wishlist:

    -Wes O'Neill
    -Mike Green
    -Kyle Chipchura
    -David Bolland
    -Alexandre Picard

Vanouver has never drafted a defenceman from MODO before. Henrik and Daniel Sedin was drafted out of MODO but they play forwards, Markus Näslund used to play for MODO as well.

I'll eat my hat if the Rangers take Thelen. I've heard they really like Ladd and Schremp, also, they have guys like Tyutin, Pock, Baranka, Nycholat, etc. on the future blueline, I don't think they're gonna pick a defenseman.
