Quite clearly the better season?

Provorov: 12g,20a,32pts in 70 games
Werenski: 14g,18a,32pts in 66 games

Last year it was werenski AINEC. now its Werenski but much closer

I had Provorov rated 3rd in his draft year, and I’ve always slightly preferred him to Werenski.

If you’re looking at U-23 defenders to build your team around your top 5 has to be Dahlin, Jones, Provorov, Werenski and McAvoy though.

minus when werenski had 47pts to his 30 last year and was a +24 better right?

SMH!
One has jumped in and immediately has been his team's #1 playing top line minutes with excellent defense. The other was the teams 3rd best defenseman playing sheltered minutes, now plays with a top 10 defenseman and still gets easier minutes.

I love how you throw out offensive numbers without context, Werenski is a PP specialist and was outscored last year ES by Provorov and this year by a very sizable margin, that mixed in with the fact Provorov is clearly better defensively this is an easy decision.

Werenski would be the 3rd best defenseman in Philly.

I see Ryan Suter in Provorov.

Not sure who I see in Werenski but he's a great one too.

When did we start judging defensemen purely by points?

People who don't know puck.

While they are both dmen, they play different styles of hockey. Zach is a much more offensive based defenseman. Which suites the Jackets extremely well, when the D is pinching in on play after play it can really wear a team down knowing that when Jones or Werenski are on the ice that either of them could jump in behind the play and be left wide open.

Where as Provorov is a much more solid two way defenseman and can be thrown into pretty much any situation.

For the Jackets Werenski is perfect because they already have a cornerstone defender in Jones and have the depth behind them to give Zach all the offensive opportunities he can handle while letting others take some harder minutes.

Where as Provorov was perfect for the flyers as they didn't have a cornerstone Dman to build around. Getting Provorov not only gave them someone to build around it allows Ghost to play more to his style like Werenski.

Better production, cf%, gf%, and xgf%. Maybe it'll change going forward but I'd have to take werenski

Do take into account that Provorov has been carrying around farmer MacDonald for most of his career whereas Werenski has been with Jones almost exclusively.

Also, in regards to production, Provorov has been a better producer at ES [53 to 48 points] but has not had the benefit of PP1 time due to the existence of Ghost. That said, Werenski is likely the better PPQB anyways.

Weresnki keeps getting called a PP specialist and talking about the 1pp... He plays 2nd unit. Jones is the top PPQB.

There was no reason for this thread. Weresnki his entire career will never get credit because he plays with Jones. It doesn't matter how good of a defender he is. If Prov ever gets a 2nd defender on his team in their fans eyes then it will be Prov doesn't need him to do good like Werenski needed Jones it just so happens that they play togeter he gets the numbers regardless.

There are actual Philly fans who think Ghost is a better defender too. Weresnki will always be stuck behind Jones's reputation on a small market expansion team while Provy plays in Philly on a historic team.

You got to see both play tonight wonder who played better and what the excuse will be as to why he was outplayed?

It probably also has to do with Werenski being #5 in ice time among Blue Jackets defensemen tonight. Can you find an instance of the same for Provorov even once in his career? Good luck with that.

Provorov has had an overall very good season with a few stretches of substandard play. When that happens, the Flyers have nowhere to hide him, unlike the Blue Jackets with Werenski. I've also read a whole bunch of Blue Jackets fans concerned about Werenski's play this year and you've been silent after hijacking every thread about young defensemen into Werenski threads the past year before this season. Or do you still think Werenski is the superior defenseman in every way like you expounded upon regularly before the season started?
