Game 7 history notes

*Since Anaheim dropped "Mighty" from their nickname at the start of the 2006-07 season, they are 0-5 in Game 7s. They were 2-1 when they were the Mighty Ducks.
*The Oilers are 6-3 all-time in Game 7s. They won the second round in 1984 vs. Calgary, then lost at home in 1986 to the Flames on the infamous Steve Smith goal. They won the Stanley Cup final at home against the Philadelphia Flyers in 1987. They blew a 3-1 series lead to Wayne Gretzky and the Kings in 1989, losing game seven 6-3 in Los Angeles. They came back from a 3-1 deficit vs. the Winnipeg Jets in round one in 1990, won in overtime in Calgary in 1991 with Esa Tikkanen scoring a hat-trick, then won on the road in Dallas in 1997, highlighted by Curtis Joseph's incredible save on Joe Nieuwendyk and Todd Marchant's breakaway winning goal, and in Colorado in 1998, before losing the 2006 Stanley Cup Final in Carolina.
*The Ducks are 2-0 in Game 7 when they score first, both 3-0 victories, in 1997 vs. the Phoenix Coyotes and 2006 vs. the Flames.
*The Oilers have allowed a goal in the first two minutes of Game 7 four times:

1. Murray Craven scored 1:41 into the Cup final in 1987, but the Oilers rebounded to win 3-1.
2. Wayne Gretzky scored 52 seconds in and the Kings won 6-3 in 1989.
3. Benoit Hogue scored at 1:38 in Dallas, but Rem Murray scored seven seconds later and the Oilers won in OT in 1997.
4. Aaron Ward opened the scoring 1:26 into the 2006 Cup final and the Oilers couldn't recover, losing 3-1.

I'm already nervous with over 12 hours to go. I'll probably be a wreck by game time lol. Is Klefbom back for this one?

There are more ways for the Oilers to win tonight than for them to lose tonight.

Big game from McDavid? The third line actually managing to take advantage of butter soft minutes? Continued dominance from Draisaitl?

Risks: The third pairing.

50/50: Cam Talbot.

But I find it hard to have firm expectations in either direction.

So pumped for tonight, I think McDavid has a big game.

I was wondering, do you keep the top-4 defensemen the same. Nurse - Larsson, Russell - Benning, the pair Klefbom with Gryba, to help out Gryba and give Klefbom a bit of a "easier" time so he can play extra PP minutes.

This would also allow you to switch he and Nurse anytime during the game if you felt you needed to.

Klefbom participated in practice on Tuesday after being a late scratch in the Oilers Game 6 victory.

"I haven't had a chance to talk to him but he sure looked good out there today," said McLellan.

"We expect him to play."

Wound up with free tickets to the watch party this morning, so for my own sanity and my bodily safety, I hope they beat the Ducks tonight.

We are going to top off what has been an exciting, but highly controversial series by a poetic, solid team win that neither side can complain about. It is the only fitting end.

Let it be so.

The fans on the Ducks board brought up a valid point that Gibson will be looking to redeem himself after the Game 6 debacle. The sooner we can get to him, the better.

Hopefully the Oilers can give the kid a little taste of what Manny Legace felt after the Hemsky goal way back in '06.

Most nerves I've experienced 12 hours before game time since June, 2006.

Let's do this!

It won't be a 7-1 finish tonight. But I do hope the Oilers can take the series after being jobbed in Game 5.

Hope the nerves don't get to the team. Anaheim will be desperate and we need to score early to take them and the crowd out of it.

Whatever happens tonight Oilers, it was a great season.

I'm more expecting Eberle and RNH to be too petrified of making a mistake to do anything resembling offense.

Maybe they have a big game on the PP.

Cherry blathering on about running up the score against the Ducks. Did he miss Game 5?

Retire already.

I'd be fine with that as long as they are the only ones. I'm worried that McDavid and Drai might be nervous.
