WTG Sweden, glad that we lost to the champs! you guys were very dominant for a roster that was a tad lacking from the one that won Olympic gold. Well done gents, enjoy the celebration!

I think no one can deny that sweden is worthy champions. 4-0 in a final is just domination.

Thanks!

I don't have time, I am 25, I can't go to Kungsträgården tomorrow, if I would act normal. Though I feel like a 15 y/o and will go!

That is exactly what I feel. BÃ…G has given Tre Kronor the culture to grow with time in each tournament and play better and better for each game.

What also impressed me was how each line delivered in the offensive department. It is impossible for the opposing team to shut down Sweden when all four lines are a scoring threat.

Offense was the best defense.

Hahaha so funny in the Swedish locker room.. the guys were calmly sitting, sipping from a bottle of beer of their own.
Commentator: "It looks awfully calm for being the gold medal team?"
BÃ…G in the studio, commenting the feed: "Naaah, we knew we would win, so it wasn't such big surprise for us."

that's what BÃ…G has changed with swedish hockey. Play good when it matters.

BÃ…G is a genius. He has all the typical hallmarks of one:

1) It is impossible to comprehend the point of what he is doing.

2) He manages to pull off miracles.

And how geniusly wasn't it by BÅG to put 18 year old Niklas Bäckström in the first line with Zetterberg? He played like a star. That's a damn fine NHL prospect and future franchise material for a good playmaker.

What makes BÃ…G into such a great coach is his ability to make all those good players click together. It isn't such an easy thing. He keeps it simple and lets the Swedish players play traditional, Swedish offensive hockey. 36 goals in 9 games, 4.00 avg.

I should probably stop watching hockey now. Nothing can ever beat this season. My teams have won more or less everything they have participated in. The only thing missing is a Stanley Cup for Mats, but on the other hand I used to cheer for Edmonton when I was a kid, so they will probably win it now. :)

Värmland wins TV-pucken - the only major junior tournament in Sweden (played on county-basis, not club-basis)

Färjestad wins the national championship.

Sweden wins the World Championships

Sweden wins the Olympics.

This is really impressive. I really didn't expect Sweden to win the Olympics and surely not this World Championship. I clearly underrated Sweden. Wow, this is great for the Swedes, you're clearly, undoubtedly the best in the world, I envy you. Congrats.

Congrats to Sweden!

They totally deserve it.

The best match though, it was the game between Russia and Czech, and next year i hope that Russia will make it to the medals. :)

Some good games, some boring. Overall these were cool games because actually you couldn't say who the winner is before the games started-- there were many potential gold medalists.

Fellow overwhelmed swedes, the year isn't over. Around christmas time our U20 kids, headed by Bäckström and hopefully Bergfors, and all the other bronze winning U18 kids will play for the junior gold on home ice in Dalarna. I'm looking forward to the first junior gold since 1981. ;)

(I know, it's not happening, but still..)

The final two periods were hockey porn for any coach.

Kenny Jönnson deserved to be named MVP. He's easily a 5m+ defender in the NHL, especially in the new NHL.

Awesome, I can't believe it! Both Olympic and World Champions during the same season, who would've imagined that back in September? Just awesome! Maybe BÃ…G isn't such a bad coach afterall... ;)

Yeah, and how loyal everyone where to the team, I can only describe it one way - beautyful!

Zetterberg examplifys it, he comes in from the NHL and keeps playing like he did for Detroit, scoring at a 1.5 points per game pace. Then when our offense starts spinning and other players are scoring Z becomes a defensive forward. He wheren't on the ice for a goal against the last 4 games if I remember correctly, and he had like 1 or 2 points. Whenever we where on top Zetterberg went so low every shift to help out the D. Amazing to see.

I don't know about that. Canada's unbeatable generation will have moved on. I saw the QF against Finland last year, we where heads and shoulders above them and threw 51 shots on net, hit 4 posts, but lost 1-0 in OT. The Finns had a decent team and besides Canada I think we where pretty close to the rest.

Bäckström will be the best player in that tournament next year, and if we get Bergfors we for once could have a pretty darn good first line, maybe the best in the tournament. We would also have home ice ect and I am sure the our U20 will get a boost from these two golds. Its a long shot, but I do think we will have a chance to win it!

What a great season it has been for swedish hockey

This isn't comparable to the olympic gold, yet that this team with mostly SEL players manages too play so good and win this tournament feels great! Oh wow, I'm almost doing what Jörgen did on tv :innocent:

I am sure some fans out there are sick on our "self love" right now. But I got to add one more dimension;

We won gold in the Olympics and we won the WCH. And in both of thoose tournaments we where by far the most offensiveminded team. That will, no doubt, affect other countrys to play a more offensive minded style. Had a trapping team won instead we in Sweden and other countrys would have looked that way. Nations always takes after each other.

Canada too gave a chance to allot of players who never would have been options before, like Trevor Daley, like Robidas, like Callamarerri.

This is the first year with the new rules. International hockey differs allot from the NHL, but when the most offensiveminded team wins it will send some chockways to other nations. Hopefully this is a start of a era where not every player shorter then 6´ are shut out from the game. And for thoose of you worried about hitting, I can only speak for myself but a player 6´0 hitting another player 6´0 is as entertaining, or even more entretaining, then two guys 6´4 lumbering up to each other to make a hit.

We shouldn't underrestimate players from our own league and has been drilled in the technical Swedish hockey school. They are still highly competent hockey players. They aren't rubbish just because they don't play in NHL. Kenny and Jörgen Jönsson for example is playing in Sweden for other reasons than money.

Actually Sweden have only been the best in two eras before, we won gold in 91, 92 and 94. And now in 06. Before and inbetween we didn't win much. Back in 90-94 we developt some tremendous players like Forsberg, Alfredsson, Sundin, Näslund and Lidström.

When we stopped developing stars at that same rate it was debated allot, the clear answear to why we did that was that at that time our players where practiceing much harder then anyone else, after that we didn't practise less but players in other countrys caught up to us. Everybody who follows the NHL example knows how much all players, role players and depth D's ect, improved in the early 90´s, because they got in better shape, worked out the entire summers ect. We in Sweden where a little before our time back then.

I get the same feeling now. This time its tactical, playing a extreme loyal team game. All players on this version of Tre Kronor really got a 125% oppertunity to honor their offensive skills. Thats what our system are designed to do.

:handclap: I must say that I was wrong about BÃ…G, I didn't like when they elected him as headcoach but he has done wonders for the team.

Fantastic, I really hated when Hardy Nilsson was our coach, and the results he gave us was pretty shabby... Some pride have been restored after this year.
