I think if the worst team in the league made money we would have a problem.

Why would an owner ever risk putting more money into such a team, if the return on investment may not be greater?

So, where's the incentive for the owners of the Rangers, Wings, Leafs, etc.

For the love of hockey, the tears of seeing his team lose and the laughs of seeing his team win?

I though the Caps were relatively healthy....

big surprise here,
The Caps are healthy ---- they have a strong ownership group and a hard core fan base (albeit a small one). Leonsis et al are not willing to put ot $50-million rosters any more, and I can't say I blame them.

Keep in mind that the Caps do not have any controlling interest in MCI ---- they do not receive money from the luxury boxes, parking, or concessions. They do receive a small amount of advertising dollars during Capital games, but that is it. Until Leonsis receives the MCI and WSE, the Caps will lose money regardless of payroll or ticket revenues.

If Leonsis were to sell or relocate the team he would lose his ability to purchase MCI and the whole kit and cabodle (which includes Ticketmaster, WSE, Wizards) from Pollin. That ain't gonna happen. So until then, Leonsis will minimize his loses with the Caps will rebuilding the team from scratch (something that should have happened years ago).

Probably not worth wasting your time to explain.....anyone talking about how a team should move should expect and deserves a kick in the mid-section

its an obvious troll

I know, I know ----- I just get a little peeved when someone tells me my team should be moved/replace with an AHL team and knows nothing about what is really going on.

Funny coming from a city that until two years ago couldn't support their own team . . . . (dad lives there) ..... and I suppose the Pens should have been moved three years ago ..... or the Thashers two years ago ..... or Chicago...... or Boston ..... and you meant every offense.

so...to me its pretty clear Ottawa didnt start "supporting" thier team until they became one of the elite teams.....even during the expansion time when teams always get a break because people expect them to be bad and its the new game in town....one year they didnt crack 5 figures in avg attendance

so...you were saying?

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE Comparison! Thats a bloody joke! I would give every expansion team at least 5 years minimum before I pulled any plug! You make no point!

is that so....ok...

first five years for...

Nashville
17281
16600
15824
14789
13228

San Jose
10888
11045
16593
17190
17190

Tampa Bay
10014
19549
19934
18892
17419

Ducks
16938
17174
17155
16977
16908

Ottawa
10485
10391
9879
13245
15377

Looks pretty clear to me that again, it wasnt until Ottawa showed some promise and some talent that they started to draw.....but to address your main point about how cities that dont support teams when they arent winning, and how they should be moved.....

Should the Islanders be moved? I assume that you totally support the Jets move, of course Pit and Chicago should move too, right? Whats the cutoff anyway? Seeing how the attendance in Boston last season was less than 300 per game more than Washington, and that was for a winning team

no....if someone here is lacking a point, it is you

leonsis' claim that the caps will lose money under the new cba with a $ 25 million payroll will likely be creative accounting for the I.R.S.

not to get into an accounting debate, but i'm pretty certain the caps' revenues will exceed their expenses. whether their books show up like that is another story.
