Faded? He scored 49 goals this year....

Anyhoo, Caps pass as well.
Compared to his own past production yes very faded. He's scored more in 7 seasons and is 25 points less than his best year. He's still a (very) good player, but he isn't what he once was. Not close.

That's not an accurate description of Ovechkin at all but alright.
Winning the Rocket Richard in 5 of your last 6 seasons makes you a faded superstar?
When you use to put up 100 point campaigns yeah. It's not like faded is an absolute term, it's relative to what you as a person use to be. No one in their right mind would argue Ovechkin is close to as good as he was in his prime.

By that logic then Ovechkin has been a faded superstar since he was 25 then. This season was his best point total since 2010. Also his highest even strength goal total since 2010 as well.

The proposal itself is silly enough as it is. If anything Ovechkin proved this year he's not fading.

His own past production? That is era related more than anything.

Yeah he probably has been. Ovechkin hasn't been a top 5 player in the league for a very long time. Once upon a time he was. ergo faded.

Faded from arguably the best player in the world to "just" a superstar. Sure.

Depends on the definition of superstar used. But yeah. I don't get the overreactions here. If OV was still playing at the level he was in his prime maybe he is worth this package despite the 10 year age gap. Current OV is still a better player than Drai, but not worth the 10 year age gap. The reactions are bizarre. Everyone knows OV isn't close to as good as he once was.

Draisaitl has more ES points than Ovi did. Again, Ovi is a great player but for a team like the Oilers who are terrible on the dot (except Leon is now top-10 in FO%) and have a proper 1B/2C... do they give him up for a winger?

If Drai is traded... it's for an elite D.
