I'm from Champaign and the FreeSpace games were basically the biggest PC games of my childhood alongside WarCraft II and StarCraft, so this is very sad news to me.

Along with FreeSpace, I was damn happy with Red Faction, albeit only barely touched the Saint's Row games. Sounds like the most recent one bombing is what did them in.

Being bought by Embracer is what did them in. Every developer under that umbrella has been getting slashed to make up for their $2 billion Saudi deal falling through.

I also found the Red Faction games to be underrated growing up. Bough the remaster on switch when it was down to $2, may need to boot that up tonight.

I played the shit out of the first two games. So much fun and I was always surprised at how many people never played them.

The first one had a clunky but fun multiplayer game mode (with bots if you wanted) and it had destructible components that made it pretty entertaining for the time.

Subpar studio without any big IPs, won’t be missed by many

So who owns the Saints Row franchise now?

While the recent one kind of sucked, i still would kind of like to see to come back again.

I have had a bad feeling about Embracer ever since they came out of nowhere to buy a bunch of studios. This is not a good news for the industry.
