Welcome to the 2018 Playoff Prediction Game thread! This thread will be a round-by-round format where you pick both the series winner and the series length, one round at a time.

Rules:

1. Each round, pick the winning team of each series and the length of the series. Points awarded:
  • 3 points for correctly guessing the team to win the series
  • 2 points for correctly guessing the length of the series (if you also got team correct)
  • 1 point for correctly guessing the length of the series (and guessed the wrong team)

2. Also, before the first round, you can guess the following: the teams to meet in the Stanley Cup Finals, the winner of the Stanley Cup Finals, and the length of the series. Point awarded are as follows:
  • 4 points for correctly guessing a team in the Stanley Cup Finals (so 8 points for both)
  • 5 points for correctly guessing the Stanley Cup champion
  • 2 points for correctly guessing series length (regardless of who wins)

3. Tiebreakers are points from your original SCF guess before the playoffs began. The next tiebreaker is points earned in the SCF round, then the Conference finals, etc.

maybe I have my homer glasses on, but I looked at the field after predicting the Wild somehow overcoming the Jets, and the rest of the field just looked so much more beatable in the West.

I'm not entirely convinced we beat the Jets, they are a tough matchup, but making that pick, I couldn't find the next series loss until the finals. I like our chances against most of the West if we get past the Jets.

If they can get by the Jets I feel like all other matchups are better. I wouldn't really fear any team from the Pacific too much. I think Wild would have home ice vs. all of them except Vegas, who I don't expect to get that far anyways.

Obviously 2nd round vs. Nashville would be another significant test, but yeah. Something seems wrong with a playoff system that would match the 8th place team in the NHL against teams #2 and 1 in the first two rounds.

I love the format, I wasn't criticising that at all. I was just surprised that after I said Wild over the Jets, I looked at the rest and was like... finals?

Unless the Avs somehow beat the Preds I agree. NJD and Caps would be the East teams that scares me the most in the Finals.
