That’s 10% of the games he will play for us this season. Not looking good.
Not at all, he looks either very lost or like he simply isn't going to give us full effort out on the ice. Disappointing but I'm hoping he's just going through a learning curve or something.

He's playing in a new system with new guys he's never played with before and had like 2 practices with. It takes more than two games and a couple of practices to build some chemistry. You're gonna look lost and confused if you spend too much time trying to figure out what your teammates are gonna do next. And for those complaining about his defensive game, well... He is as advertised. We hit the jackpot with Panarin being able to adjust his game and play defense, Vanek is a old dog stuck in his ways, he is who he is at this point.

Precisely.

We've got enough so-called "defensive specialists" (read: can't do crap offensively). Vanek was picked up for offense. Period.

Vanek is terrible. But that's nothing new. He either makes genius plays in the offensive zone or is a complete liability. When the games are more shinny, it can be the former, but once the pace picks up and he's playing in tighter checking games, it's the latter. So he'll be fine in terrible teams providing some entertainment in a long hopeless season, but he's a textbook example of a player you can't win with.

You can't roll 4 lines with him in the lineup in a playoff type game. Strictly a PP guy, similar to Gagner. And that's probably not worth it. But even if you don't use him here the trade was still fine, as he was basically free. Motte is a career AHLer.

Vanek has some deficiencies and there's reasons he's been Have Stick, Will Travel. But last night it was obvious and the game before more subtle - the guy has offensive tools in his bag that exceed beyond any other CBJ forward not named Panarin. .......Certainly not what they were 5 years ago, but still pretty darned good.

Would have lost last night without him. So that's 2 points Vanek has brought over.

A contribution from outside the CBJ fan circle,

The haters have been very quiet? It should be noted that it generally takes a player a good 10-20 games to digest a new system, mesh with his line mates and adjust to a city and life style. For the record, and statistically speaking , Vanek was never a bust in: Montreal; Long Island:, Minn;, Detroit; Vancouver; or , now ,with the Jackets. Florida was probably his worst experience. The team was collapsing in it's playoff run and continued to collapse . He had nothing to do with that and Sidney Crosby could not have stopped the crash..

He started off very quiet but man have I been impressed with him of late. He's just been sneaky good finding the soft areas of the ice and making some brilliant plays -- love that tip against Boston and that pass to Wennberg last night was a thing of beauty to get the offense rolling.

To be honest -- we aren't on this 9 game bender without his contributions. Not sure if he fits longer than the rest of this season but I wouldn't mind signing him to a 1 year deal.

Somewhere in time
People on this board have been at least partially wrong about "this guy" for a while now. Just ask Detroit, Vancouver and now Jackets faithful. However there is only one real way to right his reputation on HFboards. A good playoff performance...which ironically is the small sample size posters so often criticize when it does not suit their arguments.
