Not sure how anyone can shit on this move -- we essentially get a guy who is now 2nd on the team in points and tied for 2nd in goals and PP goals for FREE. Worst case you put him on the 4th line and use him as PP specialist. Anything he adds is a plus over what Motte/Jokinen were giving us.

I thought for sure JJ was a goner but obviously the offers weren't good enough so other than that a solid past couple of days in adding vets that won't be saviors but can certainly help address some areas we've struggled in.

Even if he couldn't get any real value, at a certain point, you're better off just keeping players that can help the team win a bunch of meaningless games, lest you turn into the Oilers. This return is past that certain point.

I am happy to add Vanek for next to nothing. Maybe he is what is needed to get things going with the forwards. We have 20+ games to find out.

The playoff nomiker (I edited it) wasn't accurate. No issue with him coming here. He's an offensive piece the team can use.

It's an OK move. Unless Motte turns out to be something.

This is probably more likely to end with Vanek being scratched (Vanek and Tortorella seems like a very combustible combination) than with Vanek recharging the offense enough for a first round playoff victory, but hey, at that price, you'd be stupid not to take the chance.

Torts talked the other day about having to roll four lines, and how he hasn't been doing that, but needs to start doing it. Some of these trades really enable us to do just that.

When healthy:

Panarin - PLD - Atkinson
Vanek - Wennberg - Anderson
Foligno - Dubinsky - Bjorkstrand
Calvert - Letestu - Milano
Jenner

Let's be real, Jenner isn't going to be sitting, no matter how much anyone here dislikes him, unless his play falls off completely, he's not gonna be sitting in the press box.

Why do you have to go and ruin my day?

I'd argue his play has already really fallen off. If he wins a battle he then turns it over again and again. He's a line killer.

Just wanted to drop by as I'm one of the bigger Canucks Vanek fans out there.

I'm a huge fan of Vanek's game and what he brings to the game. He's a step slower and he's not as dominant as he was in his peak days. However I still think he offers quite a bit in the offensive zone. I think Vanek's true gift is that he's an excellent top six complimentary player. He won't be able to carry a line and he won't be able to play with anything but skill players. However if you pair him with your skill players like Panarin or a shooter like Atkinson, he'll make them better. He has great hands around the net and very good playmaking ability. Although he's on the decline, I think he's consistently been one of the more noticeable and offensively gifted Canucks this season, although that's not saying much.

A lot of Canucks fans blast him for being one-dimensional but I think he's very good at what he does and is an excellent veteran presence.

Hope he clicks for your team. I'm happy he's gone on to better things from our dumpster fire of an organization.

Very good trade, IMO. I don't know how anyone can be negative about this trade. We got a goal scorer for nothing.

So basically what Sam Gagner was for us last season? I'll take it.
