No pick coming back and the Canucks take a cap dump.

The best you can say about this trade is that Utica got a serviceable player.

Just a brutal indefensible return.

It's not that Benning couldn't get a 5th for Vanek. He just didn't want it.

I'm gonna..
So is everyone now in agreement... This team is not rebuilding.

When you can't even get anything of future value out of a 55~ point pace veteran rental, what the **** are you doing?

Not even a 5th round pick.

another reclamation project in Motte.
Benning just loves these kinds of players.

Motte's played some NHL games, but I guess he gives Utica a boost for their playoff run. I can't see a future with him in Vancouver.

Jokinen is... there. Mentorship or something. Twenty games left in his NHL career.

No pick. That to me is crazy. Get as many lottery tickets as you can, and Benning didn't.

But why though? What possible good can this trade do? A dwarven minor league player and a player we could have had numerous times in the last few seasons that is worse in every category for someone that has been touted as a positive influence on guys like Boeser? What is the thought process here?

I said it in the main topic, but the Canucks pretty much got two cost-controlled NHL-ready U24 players today for scraps - that's a good thing. A 2nd or a 3rd for Vanek would have been good, but 4th and 5th round picks do not often become players, and Motte will play games next year. Motte is also younger than Gaunce and showed as much as Gaudette in college.

I don't know why anyone is even bothering to comment on Jokinen. He was a throw-in - probs a salary thing.

The only positive thing about today is that the team is worse without Vanek. Leipsic and Motte certainly won't improve on Vanek's offense. Better for the tank.
